I thought there were some examples in the support articles for name changes with different hosting companies...don't see them anywhere now. Anyway, I'm clueless.
I went to the host account (Register . com). Found a place to type in new DNS names. Is this what I want? Is it the same as the CNAMES in the how-to article?



In the above, does subdomain mean the actual .com site name I'm wanting to change to?
This is what's on the register . com page:

ns1.johndoe.net changes to:______________
ns2.johndoe.net changes to:______________

Is anyone familiar with Register . com?

I saw the first one, but since it didn't have anything to do with 'CNAMES', and I wasn't sure what to put in the "changes to" box, I thought I'd better find that out first before I mess something up.

So I would put "mysite . com" in there?
Should that be done before the CNAME thing, or after?

Yes. It has a "mysite.coffeecup . com" name. I need to change it to "mysite . com".

Yes, the first article is the one I quoted from above (about using a subdomain). The second article just adds more confusion to the mix

I really don't get this, so I'm stuck here. Don't know what to put in the NS1/NS2 boxes. Don't know whether to do that part first or the CNAME thing first (or if it matters). And why a subdomain instead of the main domain name?

"Find a section referencing CNAME. Enter your desired subdomain as the Host Name, and enter your full CoffeeCup URL as the CNAME—and don't forget to save!"

I'm afraid to enter anything anywhere!

Is the current site that you want to point at the s-drive account a sub-domain?

No. The original site is being replaced by a new site on SDrive (site and shop), but it needs to have the original dotcom name rather than the SDrive name.
So this is the main domain name that the (old) site has had for a few years now.

Let me take a better look at the register.com videos. My host Blue host seemed pretty straight forward when I just check on some of the same things. I have one website that has a .net but I also own the .org for that domain and it's parked. If you type the domain with .org the site will come up with all the pages having .org instead of .net. Kinda cool how it works. I realize it's a lot easier when it's all under one roof.
