I generated a image map and it doesn't work on IPods, IPads or IPhones.
It's here
http://cjstj-1964.info/Group%20Photo%20 … opups.html

It works on IE, Chrome, Firefox & SeaMonkey on Windows 7, 8 & XP
Also works on PCLinuxOS with Firefox, SeaMonkey and Konquer
Works on my friends MAC

Why not on the portable Apple products?

Hi Jim,
Doesn't seem to work for me in FX, or Chrome. I think you forgot to add your links.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

Try making one word out of 'Group Photo with Name Popup.html', e.g. like this: 'group_photo_with_name_popup.html', or even a shorter version of the long file name. Some servers, and some devices, don't work well with spaces in file names.

If your intention was to let each name be a link to somewhere, you need to put the link url into the href="" in the code.

Good advice Inger.

I'll go one step further. It is better to use hyphens instead of underscores in the eyes of Google and other search engines I assume. When you use an underscore Google views it as one word, if you want to get better SEO you should name your pages like this group-photo-with-name-popup.html. Google will view these as separate words and give you better SEO.

It is all self-contained, it only pops up the person's name when you hold your mouse pointer on their nose. No links to any other pages

Don't worry about Google finding it, because the people in the picture have the same link as I gave in my original post.

The portable Apple devices display the picture but not the popups.

Has anybody go image map to work on portable Apple devices?

Your probably going to want to use either some JQuery or css and alter the html since your really not after a true image map.

www.fjermeros.net/test then click on Ron Frazier.
This is the only way I have been able to get it working on my iphone. Takes a lot of work, though...

Looks like to use your method would require generating an individual page for each person and you are correct that's a lot of work.

You probably need to think through who your viewers are (the class mates?) and with what device they are likely to view the site. If a lot of them are using i-gadgets, then you might as well bite the bullet... :/

Have you checked how it works on Android devices? I have none of those here, so I can't test it.

Please translate
On a PC the browser pops up the person's name
On a IPad nothing happens, are you saying that is the way it works?

Correct. Image maps are not responsive, so it will not work properly on mobile devices. "
