Google Docs Collect Email Addresses -...

When making a google doc, you can select a box "Collect Email Addresses". That automatically puts an email field on the google doc form. I don't see an "entry.###########" for this field when inspecting the page. How do I link the field in Form Designer to this field in google docs?

The only workaround I found was to not select "Collect Email Addresses" and insert a short answer field in the google doc for an email address. The only problem with that is that the data validation built into google docs for an email address is lost.

Hi Jeff. Bob created a whole article about linking Form Designer with Google Forms. Here's a link to it.

To jump directly to the part about connecting the two, do a search for "Connecting a custom-designed form to Google has two simple parts:"

Did you know that Web Form Builder can be used for both simple and complicated forms and that it's not limited to the default fonts and buttons? Take a look at a form we developed for WindowTinting.com.

Brian,

That is the guide I used. However, it doesn't cover my question concerning the email address. Like I said, it works if you use a short answer field for the email address but you lose the email validation going this route.

If you select "Collect Email Addresses" in the google form settings, it automatically includes an email field. This field does not show up like the others when you inspect the page.

In the post title, you called it "Google Docs..." I don't know if you are using the name collectively or referring directly to the word processor. Just in case, let me clarify that I am talking about Google Forms (http://forms.google.com).

I clicked on Settings and checked "Collect Email Addresses." I then clicked the preview button and did an inspect on the email field. What I found was it inspected the div 3 levels up from the actual email field. The image below shows the actual email field with name="emailAddress" as the field name.

I haven't tested it at this point to make sure it works with Form Designer, but I hope that helps. Let me know what you find.

Brian,

Thank you for your time and help. "emailAddress" was the correct name of the field-so I got the form working now. I think I got too carried away in looking for a field named "entry.xxxxxxx" like the guide says. And yes, it was google forms (https://docs.google.com/forms) that I was using.

Thank you again!

I am having the exact same problem, but I can't seem to find anything labeled "name" when I inspect the element!

Hi Jo,
I don't see a input name on that screen shot.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

Hi Eric!

I think that may be my problem, I went to inspect the element and can't find an input name. Sorry, I'm definitely a beginner with this.

You need to enter a valid name in your inputs on Form Designer.
Your name and your message inputs have the same name. They need to be unique and valid.
Don't use an spaces or weird characters. Also try not to use any upper case.
