Be there done that. It's suppose to retain that info between versions. I submitted the shared setting file to cc for them to look at.
Try importing this file into your DFTP.
C:\Users\{name}\AppData\Roaming/sharedsettings.ccs
Make a backup copy before you do this.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

How do I safely preserve my server log-ins BEFORE installing new versions - both HTML Editor and Direct FTP??? I'm about 2 versions behind right now because of disappearing server log-ins the last time, also the time before that, and not happy to do it all over again. I am a lazy and stupid web master and HATE to have to change things and learn server stuff all over again, although I understand the need to keep up to date for security reasons. Please advise.

In the HTML editor they should be retained by keeping a copy of your project settings. In direct ftp you can export your server settings to retain them for safe keeping.:)

Eric,

Thanks for your reply. I'm not getting it done, though. I have Direct FTP vs 6.7 Build 1792 and the file menu sub is "manage servers" with no provision for "export".

Also, I have HTML Editor 2010 SE Build 361 and I did not acclimatize to the "Projects" concept when that was introduced, so I have no project to save settings. I just do what I was doing, create my own directory structures, edit pages in the directories and upload them to various server locations. I have not upgraded my Editor or FTP for fear of losing all the server logins - again. I have downloaded all the recent upgrades, though.

Can you give me more detailed advice? My system is Win XP.

This is an interesting one.

I've found that following a new version install, the server settings are gone. Naturally, I panicked! But, the solution for me has been to reboot the OS and then upon running the newly installed CC WFB or HTML Editor (applies to VSD too), the server settings are all restored with passwords and so on all back as they were. A moment of great relief was enjoyed.

Worth a try :)

Worth a try?! not really. I seek a sure thing.

I was thinking more along the lines of someone could tell me where in the current installed programs the server settings reside, and I could save that file to paste back into the new version after installing it.

I have had the Coffeecup suite for a few years, and tell everyone how great it is, but I don't keep my content files in the default directories because of the frequent "uninstall old, then install new" upgrades that come out. I am a real scaredy-cat about having to spend long night hours relearning stuff I forgot as soon as I had it working ok. This applies to CC and even more to the host servers. (My site is an informational/archive site and I only work on it when I have to because of software changes.)

Thanks if you can solve this for me and I could then get up-to-date on the software versions.

Or, you could take the small amount of time it would take to upgrade your software to the new versions and take advantage of the new features such as projects and export...

Personally it would take me about 4 hours to setup my projects and server info again. Which in the long run would save me the hassle of having to come on the forums and search or wait for an answer. Or, you can upgrade and see if the settings are kept.

I will say that as a web designer people that do not update their software and browsers cost me a lot of money because I then have to code my pages to meet their outdated software and browsers.

So do yourself and all of us a favor and upgrade. :P

Sorry Sharon,

Bad choice of words... What I mean is, this is something that has happened on me following an upgrade of several CoffeeCup applications and upon a system reboot, in every case, the settings I had are restored.

I want to upgrade. That's why I'm asking - what is this software going to do with my server settings? I would like to believe that *somebody* knows for sure what will happen when I upgrade and if there is a risk, how to avoid losing the settings by taking a preventive measure.

Four hours to redo it all is not what I consider an acceptable risk, and since I am not as accomplished as you all, that might be twelve hours for me. And before long there will be another upgrade.

When I acquired this software suite, it was not so much just for full time web masters, ya know.
