@Steve;
You are so right.....just trying to get acclimated seems daunting right now, but I am committed to learning the RLM app, or at least, gain some familiarity with it. Probably be on the forums quite a bit seeking advice from you guys. One question: how do the columns and rows affect the content structure? I know what a column is and what a row is, but how does it relate to web design within RLM?

Basically you are adjusting the spans of the columns with in the row to move content around. There is a great explanation in the quick start guide that CC has created. Just search rlmp quick start guide and it will come up.

You can also manipulate the content by hiding elements, columns and rows at certain break points.

Booth, until you get RSD or try RLM, another solution is to simply build a "mobile size" VSD version of the website, and add a redirect on the main website so if the width is less than say 980px, it would redirect to a mobile version. This is kind of a dirty solution, but I used it a few years ago, and it displayed sufficiently in mobile devices until I found other ways to work it out. :)

I have finally finished this site, for now :D This is a copy of and older design. This was originally built by someone using wordpress and has hacked 6 times in the last 3 years. There was pharma hack code in there and could not remove it. So off to a new host and VSD to the rescue
Please feel free to tell me your likes/dislikes and possible areas for me to improve on. RLM/RSD will be my re-model in the next few months.
Thanks!

Hiya Marc,

I have only a few suggestions for you. The site is nicely layed out and for the most part looks like a manufacturing site should, until you get to a couple of the pages.

Services Page: definitely lose the blue text as well as the bold everywhere. It doesn't do much for the site other than make it look unprofessional as it doesn't match the rest of the site and is shocking to the eye when coming from the other pages. Keep your text fairly uniform throughout your pages. Not that you can't deviate for a few things, but general content text should be uniform throughout for an industrial type site.

Facilities Page: Although you have definitely got the right idea on making the descriptive text smaller for the different specs of Milling, it's just a little bit too small and very hard to read and that's for someone with decent eyesight :P Enlarge that text just a couple notches and I think it will be much easier to read and still will get the point across that it's descriptive text.

Footer Area: Although this is not necessary it may look a little nicer. Add just a little space between the walls of the boxes and the text on the left and right side of each of the boxes, maybe about 1 char of width on each side should suffice. Doesn't have to be much, but text always looks nicer and easier to read when it's not almost right up against the sides of the container it's in.

That's it for me, looks nice otherwise and you did nice job for them. Not sure why they even bothered with the bloat of a WordPress site for that to start with as it doesn't need all that excess mods and such at all. Well done :)

Jo Ann,

Thanks for the tips. When you spend so much time on something it is easy to overlook the obvious. As soon as I started reading each one I was knew exactly where you were going with it. I will make these changes in the next few days. Thanks for checking it out for me :D

The site is laid out well, easy to get around and find info. But... the page background image is huge (http://www.midwestthermal.com/files/SPRAYING_1.jpg is more than 2000px wide), so I see each page 'flash' as it's loaded. It would be worse on a slower connection. The browser background pattern is quite busy and I think it detracts from your content.
More modern, less busy backgrounds:

One other thing I'd be concerned about; the black text over dark grey doesn't provide enough contrast for people with less than perfect vision.
I would think about making the pages white and using the SPRAYING image (optimized for web) in a footer area on each page. Then list all the services and products (in white or light grey) in the footer.

Are you planning a mobile version of the site?

Hi Paintbrush.

Thanks for the input. I did notice the same thing about the loading. I am planning on a mobile version. Just not sure how I'm going to do it yet.
