Insert a Link

As you should know by now, anything you write within the <body> </body> tags will appear on the page as text. What if you wanted to have part of that text as a link? CoffeeCup HTML editor makes this a very simple process.

First, highlight the text you want to use as a link.

Now click on the Insert Link button found on the toolbar to the right of the editor. This will bring up the Insert Link window:

The top box shows the text you want to use as a link. Note your highlighted text already appears here.

If you want a message to print at the bottom of the screen when a user puts their mouse over the link, put a check in the box that reads "Show Status Window on MouseOver" and fill in the text you want to appear in the space below it.

Under the URL, type the location you want the link to point to. The example displayed above will take you to the CoffeeCup Software website.

If you want the link to point to a page on your own site, just enter the filename for the page. For instance, if you have a page called products.html, simply enter products.html in this box. Note that products.html would have to be in the same directory as the page you are creating for this to work.

Don't worry about the target box for now, it is only important if you are working with frames.
