Creating download links

The files you want your visitors to be able to download can be stored in any location on the server. You can then link to those files just like you would to another html page, using the Insert > Link option or the Link Text code within your page. Just make sure to provide the correct filename and extension, such as "newsletter.pdf" or "newsletter.doc". If the visitor's system does not have the appropriate plugin associated with the extension it will prompt them to download the file.

Most of the time when the file opens automatically is with PDF and Word doc files. Almost all visitors already have the Adobe Acrobat Reader, and depending on the browser the pdf file will either open directly in the browser or in a separate reader window. Anyone visiting your site with Internet Explorer will be able to open files created in any Office application (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, etc.) directly in the browser since they all use the same code.

You can also place a small reminder somewhere on the page: "Right-click and select Save Link As... to save this to your computer." This will let the visitor download the file you've linked to. Let us know if you have any other questions.
