Now that you have all your profiles setup and are ready to go, let’s put them to good use! Places has a lot of neat features for such a small program. Using them is rather easy, but we want to walk you through a few of them just to make sure you have a good grasp on how Places works!

One place. Two place. Three place. More!

Places comes with a pretty sweet ability to open more than one place at a time. Open up connections to Box, Dropbox, FTP, Local Folders (and more!) simultaneously transferring files between your different profiles.

Here you can see four connections opened at the same time. Between all these open places, you can upload, download, delete and more.

Drag and Drop!

Yep, Places has drag and drop! This handy feature gives you the ability to drag files from one place to another making it easy to keep your files in sync or to backup your photos for safe-keeping.

Just open two different profiles, select the files you wish to transfer and drag and drop them into a place. In this example, we are using a Google Drive account to transfer some documents over to our OneDrive profile.

This will start the upload process. When the transfer is complete, you will see your documents now on the destination place.

Backing up your Social photos

Yes, backing up your social media photos is quick and easy! For this example, we are using Flickr and OneDrive to backup our photos to the cloud. Simply open your Flickr and OneDrive profile, select the photos you wish to backup and drag and drop them into the OneDrive pane.

This will then start the backup process. When the transfer is complete, you will see your photos now on the destination place.

And that’s not all!

These examples showcase just some of the power that Places gives you. With Places, your options are almost limitless. Ok, not totally limitless, but close enough… ;)

Single File Upload Limits for Cloud Connections

  • Amazon Cloud Drive does not set limits on the size of files as that is tied directly to how much space that you have left on your account. Since Places does not have access to that information, we have set the max file upload size to 1GB.
  • Box has set limits on the size of files that are not uploaded using their own Desktop Client. If you have single files that are over 250MB in size, you must upload those using their Desktop Client as this file size currently exceeds the maximum size allowed through 3rd party applications.
  • Dropbox does not set limits on the size of files as that is tied directly to how much space that you have left on your account. Since Places does not have access to that information, we have set the max file upload size to 1GB.
  • Google Drive has set limits on the size of files that are not uploaded using their own Desktop Client. If you have single files that are over 5TB in size, you must upload those using their Desktop Client as this file size currently exceeds the maximum size allowed through 3rd party applications. However since uploading such a large file through Places does not make much sense and for that reason, we have set a 1GB max file upload size.
  • OneDrive has set limits on the size of files that are not uploaded using their own Desktop Client. If you have single files that are over 100MB in size, you must upload those using their Desktop Client as this file size currently exceeds the maximum size allowed through 3rd party applications.
