How Do I Link to Pages Created in Visual Site Designer?

Each page you add to your .vnu file is exported as its own HTML file and stored in the _website folder created by Visual Site Designer. The filename is the Page ID you specified in the New Website and New Page Settings windows. This is important information to remember when creating the navigation for your site (whether in Flash Menu Builder, Free DHTML Menu Builder, or any other program), because it allows you to create links relatively or absolutely.

If you are creating a Home button, you can link to one of the following URLs:

http://www.yourdomain.com/
http://www.yourdomain.com/index.html
http://www.yourdomain.com/index.htm
http://www.yourdomain.com/default.html
http://www.yourdomain.com/default.htm

This is because Visual Site Designer automatically creates these four files from your designated homepage. The first option listed above may be the best to use, since it relies on the server to automatically choose which of the four files to display based on your hosting provider's default settings.

Any other buttons you create rely solely on the Page ID you give the rest of the pages of your site. For example, let's say we're using one of the built-in templates. Most of them have a Contact page. If we wanted to link to this in Flash Menu Builder, we could use one of the following URLs: http://www.yourdomain.com/Contact.html or Contact.html.

Note: Make sure to spell the Page ID exactly as it is shown in Visual Site Designer, or the server may not recognize the filename and display an error message instead. Also, be sure to include the .html file extension at the end of the URL, or the browser won't know what type of file to display.

Once you have created the menu, you can save it to your hard drive, then follow the instructions to add it to your .vnu file.
