If you have a large website, you should always include a search box for your users. Searching larger sites without a site search box can be a chore for some users, as it forces them to click through each link just to find something. When users visit these larger sites, they typically look around for the little box that they can type in and use to search the entire site.
This can also help to increase your sales. Let's say a user is looking for a specific book on your site. Without a search box, the user has to click through all the categories and pages just to find the particular book; they may find it and they may not. If you have this book on your site and the user was unable to find it, then you just lost the sale. If the user didn't find it because they were not looking in the right area or they gave up looking on your site, chances are they went elsewhere. Had you had a search box on your site, the user could have found the item quickly and you would have had a sale and a new customer.
For larger sites a search tool is a necessity.
