Theme import

Hi Coffecup

Yesterday I purchased Bootstrap Builder but it didn't take me many minutes before i began searching for your refund policy. Actually I like your software, but Bootstrap Builder is the first app I bought from you, quickly regretting. Bootstrap has become the theme standard but for some reason you choose (again) to use your own file format, not enabeling import of HTML or CSS files. By not enabeling theme import you are missing out on a lot of sales and to be honest, I am dissapointed. I understand that you wish to sell your own themes, but this seems a petty concern and a bad business decision placing Coffecup in the same catagory as Netobjects, making toy software for the amateur.

Also at 79 US$ you are going to have a hard time competing with Pinegrow Web Designer, selling at 49.95 US$, opening just about anything you throw at it.

No trial were available, so can I ask for a refund?

Hi Coffeecup,

I also bought Bootstrap Builder but I do believe from what I have read on some other posts that this may be available in the near future? I really do hope so, is this correct?

Do you have plans in giving this functionality of importing themes in the future? Can you confirm this please Scott?

I was talking to a friend once regarding this and she steers clear away from certain software [apart from WordPress] for this reason because so many make certain limitations, taking away the flexability of how we work. I think it would be a great asset for Coffeecup and I have just invested in 'almost' all your products just a few weeks ago to help me start my Graphic design business next year. I'd love to be able to support your growth on my journey.

Once you use RBB enough, you will realize that the RBB file format is the project file that contains the entire web site. It's not a substitute of the html. You can import your own css files into the resources and link the head of your pages to the css. Once you export, the entire site is there including your css.

I must correct you about making software for the amateur. I have been coding web pages since 1996 when we did it in Notepad. Although I can write the html and css needed, RBB, RFF and RSD all save me loads of time by being able to do it visually. They do all the coding for me, and the exported html, css and js contain clean, standards-compliant code rather than the junk that some other editors turn out.

If you are looking for a program to edit a theme that you have purchased, you are looking for The HTML Editor. It's one of the best html editors I have used -- especially once they added libraries.

Regarding flexibility, I'm not sure if you mean workflow from one app to another or the ability to create certain things within a web site. An example of what you mean would be helpful.

I personally cannot see CC adding theme import. From a programming perspective, it would be insanely hard and time-consuming. To import an existing theme (such as one purchased), all the html, css, js, etc. would have to be verified before importing. Once that's done, the software would have to be able to handle all the various styles of programming. There are so many variables involved, it would be nearly impossible IMO. Given the vast complexity, if Coffeecup could do this, their software would have to be over-the-top expensive.

Did you know that Web Form Builder can be used for both simple and complicated forms and that it's not limited to the default fonts and buttons? Take a look at a form we developed for WindowTinting.com.

From another developer, who also started off in 1996 with Notepad:
I came across the CC HTML Editor in 2004-5 and have never looked back. I usually create my own css and html files, but I have also imported themes from various sources. It is all possible with the HTML Editor. That programme does exactly what you tell it to do, no more, no less. I mainly use the Editor also now, but sometimes I take a shortcut with one of the responsive CC programmes to knock up the structure.

I'm with Brian when he says that importing themes would be a very complex addition to RSD, RFF or RBB, and it would have to be reflected in the price, to the extent that people would likely not buy the programmes. All the themes I have seen, consist of a mixture of html, css, js + images, fonts and what's not, and the HTML Editor is just right for that kind of work.

Hi there Brian,

Glad to meet you!

Thank you for your quick response. Knowing you’re a developer certainly helps me to understand more clearly especially as I am a graphic designer therefore obviously not so knowledgeable with the techy side of things.

Firstly, glad to know about the HTML editor, it is one thing I haven’t bought yet, but trying out the trial version. I have use Notepad++ a little, as well as Brackets and dabbled with a few others trying to find the most appropriate for what I do. I will check it out the HTML editor. :)

What I meant by flexability was being able to use a url like in Pinegrow. As for themes I thought most Bootstrap builders could import themes and if so, why can’t Coffeecup’s RBB do the same? Or any of their other software for that matter. From a programming perspective, I obviously have no clue of the complexity. I just presumed if others could do it, then why not CC.

Hi there Inger,

Glad to meet another programmer.

I had no idea themes could be imported via the HTML editor, I suppose that makes complete sense and also makes me feel like an idiot [of course!]

I really appreciate your comment about the HTML editor, I am so looking forward in using these products. I had no idea the complexity of theme importing and I certainly wouldn’t want to be paying higher prices or monthly for that matter. I also hope CC never decided to go monthly, that’s what makes CC so attractive besides having very nice tools. :)

Thank you both!

There is nothing monthly with the CoffeeCup programmes, and I'm sure there never will be. (Isn't paying monthly mainly something that you do with progs that you use online as a subscription?)

When Coffeecup launches a new programme, they always come at much reduced campaign prices. Small updates are free, but if there has been a major overhaul, you have to pay for the new version - again at a campaign price. If you subscribe to CC newsletters, you will be notified whenever there is a new 'goodie'.

Hi Inger,

So much software is going monthly, but yeas, you could be right there...programs that are online as a subscription.

Okay thanks for letting me know about CC newsletters.

Wow! 9,758 posts, that must be over quite a few years!

Cheers
