I need to know how much ram I need and the type of processor I need for my classes in college. Just in case we run other programs. Thanks

Wouldn't be better if you asked at the college you are enlisted at? We certainly don't know what kind of programmes will be used there, we don't even know what kind of studies you are following.
Having said that, I think most computers for sale now, both Mac and Windows, are built to meet normal standards. And adding more ram is quite an easy and common thing, if necessary.
