web forms or shopping cart?
(I'm just learning about coffeecup software)
My current website sells 'personalized products'... thus involving the customer to enter several lines of personalized information in an order form, unique to each product ordered.
As of now, I have each product with its own product order page, as a web-form, which directs the customer into a 3rd party shopping cart system (ccnow), while emailing a copy of the form to the customer and to myself.
I want to lose the ccnow service, and start processing all my orders through paypal.
Each of my products still require unique customer supplied data in order to get processed.
I still need a copy of the form sent to me to make the personalized product, and to the customer for validation of the spelling of the entries for each product.
I started looking into the shopping cart creator, but it (at first glance) seems to be more designed for the "off the shelf" type of products...
If I'm correct, the web form builder doesn't yet work with paypal payments?
Which way should I go?
Do you have a lot of products?
If not then you could just go with PayPal buttons until the Form Builder gets the payment processing incorporated.
If so then, I'd go with Eric's solution and create a form for them to fill out the info. It's a little clumsy as they have to submit that separately, but if you make it clear on the page to do so it shouldn't be too hard.
Some websites created by Elements in Webdesign:
http://cattownrescue.org - A friends site I created to help raise awareness to help stray cats in her area.
http://northbaldwinliteracycouncil.org - the local Literacy Council in my city.
http://lalookssalon.com - one of the local hair dressers in my town.
http://gregmaisfund.com - Dedicated to a friend who recently passed away from Lung Cancer.
One set of personalized entries wouldn't be valid for the entire shopping cart, as each product may require the same or different personalization.
And, often, orders are for multiple items for multiple recipients, as well.
Any idea how far away Paypal integration is for the web form builder?
Where's Viv? He sells customized rings/jewelry on his site. He's frequently in the Shopping Cart Pro forum......Calling Viv!
You rang me lady (oh no that was lady Penelope not Paintbrush)
Scott said SOON and we all know what that means and NO i have not found a solution, but i did see a bit of html code that allows you to put a personalised button into each cart that you click on to send an email with the details separately.

I agree with Eric, If it is included in a upgrade shortly then it is worth waiting for. I demonstrated a simple system but not suitable for a lot of products.
If I had that requirement I would shuck out for The Shopping Cart Creator Pro and the Designer to suit. I trialed it and it is a great solution compared to others like Cube Cart and Zen cart which will take a bucket of Sundays to get going.
If I had a lot of product to sell I would invest in.:
Visual Site Designer for presentation and a launch pad for my shop
Shopping Cart Creator & Designer To design and build the shop
Web Form Builder to get contact and feed back
With those in your kick you cannot go wrong. I sell software but only a few items and it is easy to splash Buy Now buttons in pages created with VSD but that is me and I can create a back end for the form builder to integrate with a payment option but cannot see the point. I love the idea of modular software each to do a specific job. That way each is the best there is.
If you are serious in a venture make a decision and go for it. Cheaper than paying someone to do it for you.
