I love how a new -transparent-browser window opens in front an existing window allowing additional information to be displayed. How can I incorporate that into my site instead of using the traditional browser window?

This is what you're looking for. It's called interstitual. It's free and easy to use, just read the directions. It's like lightbox except you open a webpage instead of a jpeg. You can put whatever content you want on the page.
