IP Address removal from Form Submitted

How do i remove IP Address submitted from the the 'form submitted' part. Customers don't want the impression that your tracking their IP and frankly I couldn't care for it either.

Go into the Settings > Email Notices > Configure Email Message and remove [form_results] and then re-insert each element individually.

Just a note on what the IP is useful for when it comes to forms. Has nothing to do with tracking them, has to do with being able to ban then, block them from your server, etc. if they are spammers. Gives you a little more power over whether the jerks spamming you on a constant basis can keep doing so because they keep changing their email address and just keep doing it over and over....etc.

Just a scenario on what it's useful for and why you might want to opt to leave it in there.

You can always remove it from the results part that the user sees and still keep it in the results email you receive. This way they are none the wiser that you have their IP and you have a little more protection you can give yourself if they do turn out to be a spammer. Trust me, it's come in quite handy for many of my clients and my own sites over the years.

Yeah that's a good idea. I was looking for a way to clean up the 'submitted form' but you make a good point.

One thing to remember about using an IP address to ban someone from your site.

Almost everyone coming to your site has an IP address that is dynamically created by their internet provider, meaning, that one day a person may have an IP address of 111,222.333.444 then a couple of days later that person may then be allocated an IP address of 111.222.333.777, so by using the first address, then at some later day you will be banning an innocent visitor.

There is a very, very small minority who have a static IP address.

Good point too. What I tend to do is look to see where that person's IP is from:

http://www.ip-address.org/lookup/ip-locator.php

Site's like the 2 in my signature that are marked as unavailable outside the US are due to spammers (hundreds of them) in China, the middle east, and various other countries using all their band width by most likely using bots to click music and video files over and over. Instead of just banning the countries as they come, it was actually easier to ban anyone outside of the US. Both of the sites are for local businesses that would not ever be able to provide a service to anyone outside of their area within X number of square miles, let alone outside the country (one is a music band and the other is a DJ and Karaoke company). In this case it doesn't matter if everyone in an area is accidentally banned or not in that list of IP's.

Locally for them though, yes you have to watch that. I do tend to ban ranges for that 4th set of numbers myself simply because in most cases, that's the person coming back. The odds that someone else in that person's area is also coming to your site is rare unless you are an extremely local only business. Yes it can happen, but that's what you have support for, when someone tells you they can't get to your site etc. :)

I hope it's OK to resurrect this thread a bit. I just started using the form builder and had the same question. I successfully removed the IP information as suggested earlier and it works fine both on the request e-mail and the confirmation e-mail. However, the IP address still shows up on the onscreen submittal confirmation.
Is there a way to hide it there as well?

Follow the same process as you did in the email message. Go to the Settings > Confirm Options and remove [form_results] and insert the elements you want to appear individually.

I did remove the ip address by adding the elements individually. But then the formatting disappears. Is there a way to keep the formatting as well?
