Hello :D
I am trying to put some videos on a website and seem to be having a issue. I have watched the video tutorials and followed what they said.... I am converting a WMV file and it seems to convert fine and plays in the preview. I have tried to insert it using the add flash tool and also by adding the HTML. Yes, my files are uploaded. I am going to give you a link to one that I have left on my site: http://www.sacredhearthattiesburg.org/Reflections.html It does show the skin and if you select the playlist it shows the file, but it will not play. I have it setup to auto play. I had another video on my home page with no skin and it just showed a blank area, so I replaced it with a picture for now. I just really can not figure out what I am doing wrong. I am sure it is something simple.
Thanks!

As far as I can tell, none of the files needed to play the videos are not on your server. I get a 404 for these:

http://www.sacredhearthattiesburg.org/rsssaintofday.xml

Also, since you are hosted on a Windows server, you probably do not have a mime-type set at the server level for FLV files. ~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~

I called my hosting company and they did not have the mime-type activated. The videos are working now. Thanks!

Have a good day :D

Hi Scott,

I may have exactly the same issue as Melanie -- the video plays perfectly in Preview, but while the skin displays properly on the website the video doesn't play. I'm pretty sure that all of my files are up on the website server.

My website URL is www.fishkenandgroves.com. My web host is Dotster. I don't really understand about the mime-type activation; could you explain that a bit so that when I call them I'll know what I'm talking about and what I'm asking for?

Thanks very much!

Because you are hosted on a Windows Server, they do not have an mime-type for .FLV setup on the server. This is something Dotster support would need to fix for you. Now if you were on a Linux server, this would not be an issue. For some reason, Microsoft sure wants to make hosting so difficult. ;)

Hi All!

Here's the solution I adopted when I started worrying about what files would play on my web site, or what videos users could watch if they didn't have flash (or whatever) installed on their PCs ...

I use the YouTube servers to play videos ON MY OWN SITE. The advantage here is that YouTube servers cope with just about anything.

Take a look at this screencast, which shows how it's done -

Hope that helps someone.

S-Drive web site to follow soon hopefully!
