One thing to add about 1and1. If your using a open source cms like joomla(it does like many coffeecup apps), and using sef urls, you have to install the site in such a way it defeats the purpose of having sef to start with. Also applications like awstats are VERY complicated to install on 1and1. I think it's the directory structure or something.

I've been very happy with TotalChoiceHosting.com for many years now. They offer good storage and bandwidth quotas for competitive rates, and always unlimited e-mail, subdomains, mysql servers, and so on. Uptime has been stellar, and they offer the full gamut of cpanel stuff (including full password protection for portions of your site and included shopping cart software) and all the expected bells & whistles. Fast, responsive customer support for everything they provide.

I have been with Bravenet for four years and up to now was happy. Unfortunately after years of using CC's web jukebox without any problems they have sent me a notice to remove all jukebox content from my sites (sub domains) as they violate their TOS copyright rules. Does anyone know of a good inexpensive service that will support use of Jukebox?
Currently this is what I'm getting from Bravenet for $8.25/month:
No set up fee, Linux OS
Free domain name, 27/7 server & connection monitoring
Ad free web tools, 64 bit dual core processors
host 10 domains, Editor Visual
600 gigs of band width, Wedsite builder
30gigs of storage space, SSI
Unlimited e-mail accounts, PHP 5.2 as a fastcig
Unlimited FTP accounts, Unlimited MySql Databases
Detailed traffic stats, phpMyAdmin
Unlimited sub domains, PHP pear libraries
Secure SSl encrypted e-mail, Support for php packetages such as phpNuke
Webmail address book & Calendar, htaccess support
And a lot of other mor technical stuff

BigBlue I would go with Lunarpages -Hostway-Godaddy-I guess it would depend what you wish to spend per month or year. :)

I recently read a post on another forum suggesting you stay away from domain sellers that also host, and go with a hosting company that may or may not also sell domains.

I am not sure how you determine which a specific host works, but they specifically mentioned GoDaddy as a domain seller. One of the sites I maintain is on GoDaddy, and what they offer is not much, but we have had NO problems with them.

I (or my clients, at my suggestion) prefer to purchase the domain directly from a domain registar. And purchase the hosting from a hosting co.

My experience with purchasing both from the same has been a nightmare. If you get fed up with the host and want to change, transfering the domains is a real pain. It takes alot of time with online applications, releases (assuming the old holder will release it), etc.

I require my clients to purchase both independantly in their name. They are responsible for the payments. They supply me with the needed data, usr, pwd etc. I have had clients want to change their site developement to me, but their existing host has held them over a barrel. One, infact, wanted to sell them their domain as it was registered to the host. A dirty little secret to those who do not pay attention. Their domain may be controlled by a third party.

The site owner has far more control purchasing the services independantly and directly. Changing to a new host is then very easy when required. Just upload to the new host and point the DNS.

Personally, I have been very happy with the HostGator business package.

Thanks for all the responses, actually Bravenet has been really good for me and as you can see they offer quite a bit for what they charge. My real concern is that the service I use will allow me to use the CC jukebox for the reason that I purchased it for. That is to play music from the CD's that I have brought, on my website. I had been doing so with my current hosting service since CC released Jukebox, then I put up a sub domain site for a friend and put a jukebox on it. two days later I got an e-mail from my hosting service saying I was in violation of their TOS and to remove the content from the site. So what I'm really looking for is a hosting service that will allow me to use the jukebox to play my CD music on the web. Funny thing about the Bravenet people is that after I told them I have been using the jukebox on other parts of my site for years they still have not told me to remove those.
So if any of you are using the jukebox to play (copyrighted) music you have ripped from a CD or downloaded from a leagal service, please let me know who your hosting service is.
