Reluctantly switching to chrome

Excuse me while I gripe a moment.

I've used Firefox for quite some time now. However, since Firefox forced the last CEO out because of his personal views (a person can't believe what they want anymore, but don't get me started), Firefox has developed more and more problems. I'm NOT saying that firing the CEO was the cause. I just find it coincidental that Ffx began crashing periodically after that. Now, it crashes on me almost daily. (I'm still doing the same things as before, and I haven't added any extensions/add-ins.) It's to the point now that I have to change.

IE is not really an option. I like some of their innovative features, and I prefer Bing over Google for searches. However, it doesn't integrate with icloud bookmarks (that I know of), and it runs so much slower!

Because I use Windows, Safari isn't much of an option either. I have yet to have an install of Safari be stable. It's slow and crashes often it seems. (It's been awhile. Perhaps I should give them another chance.)

Therefore, it looks like I'll be using Chrome. It makes sense since I use gmail, Google calendar and a few other Google products. The integration is very nice. I'm just not thrilled. What Microsoft once was, Google is becoming today. There is too much power in one place. (Just one example: They hold complete sway over the internet. One small change in their algorythm and online business can die unless they purchase Google advertising while they pay in time and/or money to update their web sites to account for the latest Google whim -- but don't get me started.)

I haven't checked out Opera yet...

Did you know that Web Form Builder can be used for both simple and complicated forms and that it's not limited to the default fonts and buttons? Take a look at a form we developed for WindowTinting.com.

Strange Brian,

I have been using Firefox for many years myself also, and I truly think that whatever is going on for you is something on your computer or something that got corrupted with Firefox. I have no crashes like you mention and no issues with it at all really. I am on a Mac so that could be part of it there though.

I also do use icloud bookmark sharing so my bookmarks do share with my ipad, using firefox, but once again that might be an Apple thing.

Not sure what else to tell you, but you should try seeing if you can do a clean uninstall of the Firefox program and try again from scratch and see if that helps. I have also had to create a new profile with Firefox once when I was on Windows. You might want to look that up as if I recall correctly it fixed most of the issues I was having with crashing on a constant basis back then. This was a few years back so who knows, maybe whatever it is that was getting me then, has gotten you now! :P

Good luck with it whatever you decide to do. I for one will wait until Firefox is no longer usable to me as none of the other browsers have as great of addons/extension use as firefox does as well as the ability to customize it almost fully. Chrome is extremely limited on that issue which is really the only thing that keeps me from using that one.

Jo Ann, Thanks for the encouragement. I love the customization of Firefox and there are so many development tools. Have you tried Firebug? It's one of the best tools I have.

Regarding iCloud bookmarks, I wish they had a way to edit what they have synced in online. I've found the syncing is not perfect. I created a folder the other day in Firefox bookmarks which is now gone from all my browsers. Perhaps that's Ffx's fault and iCloud just synced it. I don't know.

Yeah I will have to agree that the syncing is not perfect, I have yet to find a way to be sure it's syncing, it just randomly does it lol. Not sure on the disappearing thing though, haven't had that ever happen so maybe once again it's just Firefox for Windows messing up on you and you should probably go report the issues to them also so they know as they may already have a fix for it planned or done. :)

Woot! Woot! I just found the bookmarks! They were all in one folder at the top of the list. Somehow, they were moved to the bottom of the list. Not sure why (probably user error), but at least I don't have to rebuild all the bookmarks!

I like both Chrome and FX but prefer FX. I can't really say I've noticed FX crashing a lot. I've had every program crash at some point in time.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Chrome all the way Brian! :)

I use Safari myself, but if I were to pick between Chrome and FireFox I would choose Chrome all day long.

Make sure you setup an account and sign in with Chrome, this will save all your settings and when you get a new computer or reformat the one you have, Chrome will retain its settings and bookmarks!

Eric, If you don't use it now, try out Firebug. Fantastic for finding problems in code.

Adam, What are the most useful extensions you've found with Chrome (if any)?

I am a minimalist. I use the inspector tool which is the same as Firebug in FX. Even when I used Firefox I did not use extensions. I did download and play with a few, but normally deleted them shortly after.

It is all a view on which browser you feel like using. Pick the one you like the best and go with it.

For me however, I do not look at the style or color of the browser, because I am using it to look at the Style and color of a website. I just like my browser nice and thin, when very little to no extensions. :P
