So is it safe to say then that Coffee Cup software was not used to build the Coffee Cup site?

No, we use it on our website as well for all of our SWAG and other promo materials.

On the store front where you order software, that is a custom built system that ties many different services together.

Please work on this - it would be a HUGE selling point. I desperately need the ability to do this, as it sounds like so many other small business owners do as well.

why is it a feature on the CC website & not available for us. Are they using CC software to build their own site or soemthing else? It would be great if we could offer a coupon discount.
Is there a way we could do it with the Password Access manger. When they are givien a specific password (coupon code) it would redirect them to a discounted shopping cart.
I know we would of have to build two identical shopping carts with different pricing. Say one with the original pricing & one connected to the redirect with the rigth coupon code (password) that would be for example 20% off the regular price on everything.

Would that worK?

Yes you can do that pretty easily and the only thing that would have any draw backs would be that inventory would not be accurate if you use the same products for both shops.

To do this just save your main shop under a new name (add something like -discount to the end of the shop name so you know which is which). Then use CC's Website Access Manager to set up a coupon code (basically an ID / Password combo) and then do a whole shop discount (easily done using the grid copy and paste method).

You have the right ideas already in your head so go for it and good luck! :)

While this is not a perfect solution, this did work (it was fairly easy to do) and I appreciate the suggestion. I needed special pricing for conference attendees. I had them go to a special link on my main site which take them to a secondary shopping cart that is password protected. When they enter the special username and password that I gave them, they are forwarded to the second shopping cart with 25% off. I'll keep the link up for a few weeks and then take it down.

Glad it worked for you Amy, and what you can do, especially if you'll be using this shop again later for sales, is just change the ID and PW pair instead of taking the site down. This way it's ready to update for next sale without having to reupload the entire site. Enjoy and happy selling! :)

I find the best discount is buy ten get one free.... ;)

There are a few features that need adding to the cart to broaden its appeal and expand its customer base.

Discount vouchers that have time limits on them.

The ability to enter custom fields for personalised items etc.

Handling of (paid) digital downloads.

Few more options on the payment including quantity breaks, free shipping over certain values etc.

Would be zero point in offering responsive themes to the cart software as without those extra features, the cart itself is not suited to many business needs in its current format. Although they keep developments very much under wraps, the changes to the cart program need to be significant rather than just a few tweaks. Both Coffeecup and its customer base realise the new cart needs to offer something far more spectacular with the next release.

I know they have kept us waiting for an extremely long time, but I look at it this way. 'Thank heavens they don't work in a fast food joint'. :D:D

Maybe Coffee Cup took on more than they could handle with SCC. Maybe they underestimated the interest in such a product. Two years is a long time to wait for an update/upgrade. I have, for now, abandoned SCC but am awaiting to see what their next offering will include -- I just got tired of waiting for it to be released.

Therein lies much of the problem. If the SCC program had been updated two years ago as was indicated at the time, it would be enjoying a much greater customer base by now and have been deployed in a far greater range of environments. In contrast, other cart softwares have evolved significantly in the last two years.

Without substantial changes to the core program of SCC, with regards to both the functionality and the feature set, responsive themes are going to be of little benefit. There is still a huge void in the shopping cart market between the very simple carts and the overly complex open source offerings. Only Coffeecup can tell you why they have not capitalised on that market?

Is there any news on an update to SCC? One that will integrate shipping AND for coupon codes? It needs to be available by Feb. 2014 or I will have to look for different software.

For my most recent shopping cart website I used Zen Cart. I couldn't use SCCP because I needed to be able to sell a download. the learning curve for Zen Cart was a fair bit but not too bad. I figured it out with the help of tutorials online. I would rather have used SCCP but I couldn't.

i'm finding the answers to the features i want but it's sending me to other companies.. this is discouraging; but at least it's helpful.
