Okay, I am getting my store built, slowly but surely, and somehow I created an extra home page. It has the little house on it and I can change the name of it, but when I link it to the real home page it gives me an oops! message. It won't allow me to delete it and it won't link correctly because it has the home page properties, I think. Can someone, not Scott, :P (lol) please tell me how to get the page off of my store?
Thank you,
Tina Segura

Hiya Tina,

when you say the "real home page" what page do you mean? Did you create pages outside the program also or do you mean the Shop Home page? When you initially start a new shop you have 3 pages to start with. Shop Home, View Cart and Categories. Unless you create a home page outside of the program with an HTML Editor or a Visual program such as CC's HTML Editor or Visual Site Designer, then the Shop home "is" the home page and cannot be changed.

If you created a page outside of the program that you want to setup to be the home page you need to set that up in the Your Shop settings to point to a URL (I think the last option) and give it that URL to use as the home page. Once you do that you can make the Shop Home page be whatever you want it to be, change it's name etc. ... BUT ... it will always be the "Shop" 's home page no matter what. So what you need to do is rename it to Shop Now, or Click Here to Shop or something on that order so that when people click that it will go to the shop.

When you create a page outside the program to use as the Home page (I'm assuming here that is what you did) it is only linking to that as the Home page of the site, not the shop itself. That means that when someone goes to your domain they will go to that home page not the shop's home page.

Hopefully that makes sense. Suffice it to say that the Shop Home page is still the shop's home page, just that you can put anything you want on it, just realize that it's the landing page for when someone wants to go shop. Pointing to the URL of an outside home page, does not make that integrated with the shop so the shop does not understand (for better lack of terms hehe) that it's part of another page. It will still default to that Shop Home page or whatever you rename it when you press the link to go shop.

Some people use that as the page that tells about their products, shows lots of product examples and categories etc. so that there's good content on it.

Hope that helps. I know it's not what you want to hear, but that's the way it is unfortunately. Jo Ann

Hi Jo Ann and thank you for answering me. First of all let me tell you that if something can get messed up and complicated, well that is my department! I have an actual second home page. It is not from outside SCCPro. I remember clicking a button when adding pages and it offered me a choice of pages and I selected 'home page'. So, now I have two home pages and the program will not let me delete the second 'home page' and I think that is because 'home page' is protected. I know it is because if you click on the actual first 'home page' the little red X fades and you cannot delete it. Well, that is a blessing for some like me, :rolleyes:but the new 'home page' that I somehow created is protected the same way as the first 'home page'. I cannot delete it. I can rename it; I can move it; but it will not go away. It is causing me problems on the actual site because I have two 'home pages'. Notice the little house, only a home page would have the house! I believe I am correct in my assumptions, just not making myself very clear. I am attaching a view of my problem. I couldn't cut and paste.
Hey Scott, maybe an improvement for CoffeeCup would be to allow cutting and pasting in the forum writing page.!! JK
thanks again, Jo Ann. I went to your florist shop and it's beautiful. Great work!
Thanks, Tina
Okay,I have been trying to attach a file but it is too big for attaching and this forum won't allow me to paste a word doc, so I am going to shoot this to you without the picture. I'll keep trying though. Thanks

Hello, my bad! Scott was correct once again and it was on my Pages tab in Your Shop. I just clicked on the wrong thing and there you go. Nothing new to me, like I said, you can call me Murphy. Thanks for the help and I will be back I am sure! Hey Scott, I was only teasing you. Hence the tongue sticking out. Duh. I have another issue with the remaining number in my inventory but I'll keep messing around with it! Thanks you guys.

Tina, glad you got it worked out hehe, and no worries we've all been in that boat at some point or another, I had so many blunders and mishaps and questions and and and ... when I first did my first shop that I can't even begin to tell you lol, it's a learning experience at the very least, but it's worth the effort and the learning. Enjoy! Jo Ann
