Retrieving a theme

I have just bought shopping cart designer and creator, and downloaded the bought version. I carefully saved my scc file and folder, but find when I try to amend my theme in designer, that the template was not saved. Is there any way to retrieve this template from my scc files. I hope so as I didn't make adequate notes about hex colours etc, and anyway it's just such a pain to have to redo things. The site is also on line. Not quite sure why new software should be downloaded, or maybe I got that wrong as well. I was afraid of losing stuff, and I've done just that.

Hiya again Anne,

did you uninstall the trial versions? New software needs to be downloaded if you're using the trial version in order to be sure it's an active version (registered). This will change eventually as CC is implementing the registering with email system on software a bit at a time which will make it so we don't have to uninstall trial versions, it will register them within the program, but it's not active for all software yet.

Your theme files will be located in your documents folder in a CoffeeCup directory which will be similar to this:

\My Documents\CoffeeCup Software\Shopping Cart\Themes

That's where all the themes default save to so if you can get to that location you should be able to see if it's there or not.

When you load it up make sure you check inside the MyThemes folder that it can create when you alter things and see if it went in there too. Usually it will bring up all directories in there, but check anyways to be sure. Jo Ann

Yes I uninstalled the original programs, thought I had saved the important files, deleted all the many junk trials I had done, but forgot to look for my theme file, only saving the scc file and folder. I have re-done the theme now, so it wasn't too bad, as I now know the basics of using the programs. I did find the file structure confusing at first, as doing things from a template, I really wasn't sure where things were being saved, or even what was being saved, in what format. But I understand it now, thanks to asking lots of dumb questions!

well definitely good luck on it, I get confused with the designer too, still don't understand half of it because it looks like a good quarter of the settings do exactly the same thing to my theme as other settings do lol, eventually I'll figure it all out though I'm sure.

I would suggest that once you get yourself rolling that you create backups of these files, even while you're editing the theme and getting it right create a backup of it somewhere safe when you make changes to it. Once you have it done and not making changes just create a backup for it and you won't have to keep doing that. You can even upload it to your server for safe keeping too. I do that with a protected (using Website Access Manager) server, I upload my theme files and my .scc file for my shop every so often just for safe keeping in case of puter crash or something :) Jo Ann
