Yep - I am a total newb with Coffee Cup and just now realised that I got stiffed with the "can't edit the shop home page images in themes" thing. It clearly says the themes are fully customisable - which MUST include changing the shop home page image SURELY? That is the most basic "LOOK" you want to change to customise your site, right? So now I gotta fork out another $90 to get the PRO version because there is no upgrade from basic? I only got the program a week ago and I've been learning how to use it in my spare time - working fulltime and building my site after hours, when I can.

You can see the feature comparison chart for the Designer Programs at www.coffeecup.com/shopping-cart-designer#compare What you wanted to modify is only in the Pro version and that is listed in the comparison chart at "Modify the Spotlight Area (great for displaying promotional products)."

If you have purchased the program within the past week, we will always upgrade you for the difference. Just call our office and Suzanne will take care of ya.

My sentiments exactly, Shaheed and Bravo! I feel that I have been totally misled! :(:( What's the point of the basic designer if you can't just change a picture? I don't get it. A template implies something that can be changed. Not something that you need special software to edit. This is not good.

I've been a satisfied CC user for years but this leaves a bad taste in my mouth! It will be a longtime, if ever before I purchase something from you again! I will recommend you only with a severe CAUTION!

You know with a basic ftp program you can get at those images and just make one that you want and name it the same as whats already in the shop and ftp to the same location as the original and presto changeo the image has changed.:) I won't even mention the free trial period everyone gets to try the app.:P I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's so easy to overlook something your not looking for.

I used to use Cubecart, and every shop i set up had the cubecart logo because you had to understand FTP in order to edit even that ! (or pay a fortune for it)

I think what CC tried to do here was create a beginner (newbie) basic designer program with limited ability and less confusions for learners.

Then when it took off, and i was one of the first beginners to use it they decided it was worthwhile to create a PRO version, for more advanced users I was one of the first to but that aswell

Plenty of beginners still using basic so there is still a market for it , and Eric is correct, you dont need the designer at all, if you are ftp capable everything is editable ! Started using CC VSD in January 2009, I don't do HTML code, sales close to £100,000 from my SCCP & SCDP shop to date, Enjoying semi-retirement

You can look at the need for a Designer program as a benefit also. Instead of looking at it as an "added expense" look at it as an additional software that the other shop systems like Cubecart and Zencart etc. don't offer to their users. As Viv mentioned, you have to do all the image editing etc in the backend or via FTP and have to spend sometimes hours hunting down the exact location of a particular image and saving it for use later and then create the new one and replace it in the exact spot and name the other one was in. That's the norm for many things, Wordpress, Joomla, etc. most assume you know how to do all that.

CoffeeCup went a step further and offers you the ability to purchase a program that will help you do all the designing right at your fingertips. Instead of complaining that you have to pay extra, look at it realistically and realize the other shop systems don't offer this at all! And if they did you'd most likely have to pay a monthly fee to use it!

Just sayin' :P Jo Ann

Just want to add, that i would have never got my delorean site to look the way it does now in either Magento, Cubecart, or zencart I tried.

And none of my previous sites ever made the sales my SCCP site does, I have spent £300.00 with CC and its been money well spent, see signature Started using CC VSD in January 2009, I don't do HTML code, sales close to £100,000 from my SCCP & SCDP shop to date, Enjoying semi-retirement
