Possibily for viewer's to download pictures in original size

I have a site that is public, if some steal my pictures, so what.
I have another site that is protected with Website Access Manager to control who's looking/downloading in a poor quality.
I sometimes take pictures at a privat party, where the other guest's ask for a copy of some of the pictures.

My question is: Is it possible to allow download of the picture in it's original size?

I'm looking for a way within Photogallery, because I'm not a wizard with the codes.

Kind Regards

hiya Newbie,

Photo Gallery is just that, a gallery, it really isn't equipped for downloading purposes...

That said you do have the ability to allow people to click the images in the galleries to get the enlarged images. This then would allow them to right click the image and choose "save as.." to save it to their computers. This is about the only way you can utilize Photo Gallery for this purpose, it has no other way to allow downloading of images.

You can work around it once you have it setup to replace the program generated images with your original full sized images. The easiest way is to just replace the large pictures that the program creates with yours. I haven't used the program in a while (I will be again soon though), but I don't think the XML file uses the size proportions in the pathways of the large images so you can just replace them without having to worry about adding the correct size dimensions.

Basically just open the .xml file that the program gives you to upload. Scroll down till you start seeing the file paths for your images. Upload the images you want to replace them with and update the file names in the .xml file to the same as the file names of the actual images. The program tends to rename them as it generates them if I recall so you may need to alter some of the names to be correct for your replacement images.

Takes a bit of finnagling to get this downpat, but once you have got it worked out then any future galleries you need to alter this way go much quicker.

That's all there is to it and you now have your original images available for right click "save as.." when people click them in the gallery. Of course you will need to not have the copy protection setting on or they won't be able to click them in the gallery to get the larger images.

As a rule, once any image is opened to it's full size via clicking in the gallery, they are always right click copiable to anyone. Just so you know that too.

Hope that helps and holler if you get stuck and I'll work up a gallery and see what I may have missed in this information :)

You're welcome Newbie,

Hopefully you can work around the size issue of the pictures. Maybe for the download part you can change them to zip files? I've never tried that so I don't know if it would work, but maybe try this:

- Take just one of your pictures and zip it up into a .zip format so it would be picturename.zip
- upload it to the same location as the large pictures are in.
- Now open your xml file (make a copy of it so you can just replace it again easier than altering it back)
- Find the location of the exact picture you have zipped and edit the name of the file to the name of the zipped file, leaving the location itself intact.

save it and upload the xml file and now try opening that particular picture by clicking on the image in the gallery and see if it brings up an .zip file to download or not?

You may need to play with this idea a little to get it to work correctly, but seems it might be possible to work that in there somehow... if the xml file will allow the zip file to be input of course. Never tried it, but in theory it seems like it should work lol.

Let me know if you try it and if you do let me know if it works please :)

There is another way to do this which means your album picture isn't too large to download (may be a problem with dozens of pictures). When you are working on your album having clicked on the button to edit the album (add, delete re-organize etc) you will see, when you click on a thumbnail, there is a link button on the right hand side. (looks like a chain link). If you click on this it will give you a box to enter the URL that you want it to follow when anyone clicks on the image. So using your example of "party" pictures, you set the album up with nice, low resolution pictures at maybe 320x200. This link, however, points to the same picture (different name perhaps) at say 2000x1600 resolution. That means not everyone has to wait to download a lots of large files whilst browsing the album - just the one they want.
