Hello,

Coffeecup Photo Gallery 5.91 registered
Windows XP Pro SP3 (fully updated)
Firefox 3 and IE 7 (fully updated)
Website: http://wolverana.com (ignore the menu problem I'm working on it :P)

I am having trouble getting the Photo Gallery to resize the setting I set it for. I've since basically told it not to resize at all and am resizing my own via Irfanview program which i can batch resize with and I just have it replace the photos that the Photo Gallery added to the gallery folder it creates.

The problem here is none of the settings work for the resizing. When I Add photos it has that nice little drop down menu asking me what size I want the large images to be. I'm assuming they are talking about the images that open when you click on the gallery picture (meaning the large ones that open in a new window).

Right now I've gotten random sizing from no matter what size I tell it to be. What I'm after is almost all 1024 x 768 size and that's what I choose in that pull down menu (my pictures are all much larger than this lol) but they always come out like half that size 480 x ? and 500ish x ? so what am I doing wrong to make it not size correctly? Hi Jo Ann,

I must admit, I've used this program but have always put in a mannual link to the image I wanted rather than depend on the program to do it automatically. This is because not all my images look good at one size, or reshaped to fit the pre-disigned sizes for Photo Gallery. Having read your post, I tried out the function you talk about, with the same results as you!
Please follow up with a support ticket to CoffeeCup (the Get Support link is near the top of the page). Reporting the problem to them is the most direct way to get this fixed.
I will also let the developers know of this issue. E-Learning Specialist

Thanks Cliff once again lol,

I have sent in the ticket and included your post with it so they can see I'm not the only one. Let's hope it's something simple to fix as I would rather the program do it all for me than having to do things outside of it if it can do it well :) Jo Ann

Hi Jo Ann. I recieved some information from CC support about that feature in the program. Here is their response:
"The option you are looking at in the Photo Gallery is meant to determine the size of the image when a user clicks on the image within the project in order to view the original file on their browser, and cannot determine the size of the image size in the viewing area."

So it looks like that option does not control what the person sees online. You will have to resize those larger images and make sure to upload them and that they are linked to the slide show. Right now, the visitor to your site probably sees whatever size the original image was at the time it was used. Resizing them BEFORE you use them in the photo gallery will probably keep them all the same size on the finished site. Hope that explains it. E-Learning Specialist

Well I for one can tell all 100% that that option is resizing the largest images (the ones that open in a new page). This is the option that is not working correctly. I'm not looking for it to resize the gallery images since it's making them on it's own as well as the thumbnails.

The information on the program says it's resizing the large image, but it doesn't say which image it's considering to be the large image. I assumed it was the largest one that opens in the new page simply because that's the one it's resizing if I change that setting to another setting.

If I leave that setting at No Resize, it will not resize the original picture at all and only creates the gallery images and thumbnails for displaying inside the gallery. This leaves me to resize the large images myself which is fine if that's what it's supposed to do.

I guess if it's not supposed to be resizing the large images then that setting is confusing lol. If I set it to 1024 x 768 which is one of the settings on drop down menu, it resizes them to way smaller sizes that don't exist on that dropdown menu at all, smaller than the smallest option on that menu. So even if it's 'not' supposed to be doing the largest image for opening in the new window, it's still not sizing them to the sizes on it's own menu.

Oh and resizing them ahead of time will work as long as I keep the No Resize, but... what is the point of the other settings then?

Now that I've got myself all confused... LOL Jo Ann

I agree with:
1- it is confusing
2- It does not work properly
3- It is confusing....still.

If I get the chance, I will try to explain it better, or maybe provide screen shots for tech support so they can better understand what we (think) we mean, if we're not too confused by then :P E-Learning Specialist

I did forward this issue to CoffeeCup, and they were able to re-produce the image sizing (wrong size). They have are looking into how to fix it. Thank you for helping bring this to their attention E-Learning Specialist

Thanks Cliff for all your help here and support, I'll look forward to the fixes in future builds, and count my blessings that I know how to fix the code to make it work right and resize my own pics hehe. Hopefully I'll be able to help others with these problems as they come up too. :) Jo Ann

Jo Ann I see you are on line and I have a Photo gallery glitch and thought maybe you might have a correction for me. I posted this in another thread but this seems more appropriate.

When I up load my gallery to the page in my website and preview I have large white areas to the right and bottom of the gallery. I tried resizing height and width in gallery settings within PG but it did not correct it. I've looked at all my settings in both PG and VSD and they all appear to be right. None of them specify white anywhere on might site. Any suggestions to why this is happening and how do I correct it?

Thank you

Hiya Daniel,

Wow this was 3 years ago so I'll have to read back to see what my issue was. In the meantime do you have a link to your form page? Also if you can tell me what theme you are using, if you altered the theme at all or not. I played with it a lot this summer and got some pretty cool results from it, but it's pretty tricky when you're resizing it.

Let me know the link and the theme you're using and I'll see if I can't load it up after supper and check out what might be going on. :) Jo Ann
