HI All,
I have been approached by a client who would like to be able to have a gallery on his site and the ability to update images and captions himself. I presume this is possible, if so would it be able to do so without any CoffeeShop branding, and also could anyone advise on doing this? Would I simply install software on his server, or on his computer? I am quite sure his host wouldn't like the idea of someone installing software on their servers though.
Cheers
Andrew

Hiya Andrew,
There's no way to do this without CoffeeCup branding. Each person/client that you create things for and that want to edit them themselves would need to purchase (or you purchase it for them) their own copy of the CC software involved. In this case they'd need their own copy of the Photo Gallery software. You would need to teach them how to use it, and what to do to update the gallery. How you get it installed is up to you. The server host has nothing to do with who has what installed on their computers, you don't install the software to the hosting server, it's a Windows based software that is installed on the computers being used to create/edit/etc. the gallery.
Hope that helps, although it may not be the answer you wanted

Be afraid, be very afraid ...
I get very nervous when clients ask about making changes themselves to their sites.
A case in point - a client, who I actually had to show how to maximise and minimise windows on his PC monitor, asked about updating his price lists and catalogues himself - NOT A CHANCE!
Whilst I'm no expert at web design, I tend to produce glorified "billboards" as web sites (ok, maybe I'm putting myself down a little there) rather than masterpieces in terms of SEO, databases etc., but compared to my clients I'm a relative expert.
Letting clients loose on their sites is probably going to result in loads of time clearing up the mess! Their initial simple requests, even if things work out, turn into more ambitious stuff, and, let's face it, even developers like me have spent a lot of time and money gaining our skills, so desuade them from getting involved with web site design and editing, and leave them to do what they do best.
I think the problem generally arises when unscrupulous web designers charge silly amounts for a couple of minute's work - that's when clients start asking about doing stuff themselves.
Would you let a bricklayer do your plumbing? I suspect not.
Well, that's my opinion!

S-Drive web site to follow soon hopefully!
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

I would have to agree with Phil there, but.... there is a way to gain from that too lol.
I don't know about you, but before I'd hand anything over for any client to "edit/fix/break/etc." themselves, I tell them to read the contract again about what the charges are for us fixing what they might break. Most of the time that dissuades them for the most part

Thanks guys, I'll try to get them to put up with me updating any photos they want to post.
Hello Forum People,
I'm posting on this thread because I see it is live and I'm never quite sure where to post my concerns sometimes. I have done it! After three rebuilds I have successfully built my Photo Gallery and It all seems to check out fine, all of the appropriate files, works nice in preview now I want to upload it to a page In my site specifically designated for the Photo Gallery. There seems to be different options to upload to ones site. The upload button within Photo Gallery, The tutorial in the PDF File and then an option when I click save. Please I want the smoothest cleanest way so it happens like it is suppose to.
Any Thoughts Greatly Appreciated
Thank You
p.s. I pretty much a newbie and computer tech is not a real strong point of mine. Step by step real clear is real nice. Thanks again

The only option I give my clients with cusy cms is to edit text so I ensure they are not able to change layout or images that are within the layout.
I will only set up a cms system for a client if I feel they can handle it without me having to correct any changes they make in the cms.
As for pictures within a picture galleries I now use only JQuery galleries and the if I client needs images changed I do it and they pay me for it depending on the amount of pictures they need changing.
If a client insists they want to change images themselves I give them the option to create their own flicker account and link it to the website in the menu. It is not ideal but it is an option.

Again thanks for the comments. I know Cushy and have given it a try with demo sites, and find it pretty good; I have also heard good things about Perch. Is this something CoffeeCup is going to get into, or indeed do they have a CMS, I haven't checked? They do seem to have a lot of customer access issues recently though. The client site is inherited from anothe rdesigner and is in asp, it seems easy enouh to follow although I don't have any experience of asp, and I am trying to teach myself php/MySql on and off.
Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
