I have been wrangling with RSS feeds on a directory web site that I own for about a year now. I say wrangling because I can't find a single, easy to use program that does everything I need it to do... or more accurately, WANT it to do. Many programs are either readers, aggregators or rss-to-html parsers. Some are hosted services, theres browser plug-ins, programs you load on your PC and some that run on your web server. That is a lot to take in I know but there are a lot of options depending on what you need to do. Since CoffeeCup RSS News Flash is related to my dilemma I thought I might run this up the Coffee Cup flag pole because there are many scripts and programs that are supposed to help webmasters publish news feeds but none do it all. If I were to design a program here is what I would like to see for RSS content:
- Program that can be loaded on a server
- Easy to use browser accessible back end
- Multiple feed aggregation
- Works with All RSS formats 0.9x, 1.x, 2.x and Atom
- Feed channel sorting and editing
- Auto updating output
- Implementation with a choice of Javascript, PHP or HTML code
- Customizable output: display tables, fonts, colors, backgrounds, borders using CSS or HTML
I have been using a combination of aggregators and scripts that get the basic job done but customizing the output and editing the feeds is difficult. I continue to search the Internet and try new combinations. Is it possible to create a script to do all this at once and control what goes in and what goes out? Are my expectations over the top?
I am using HTML Editor, LockBox, Photo Gallery, Visual Site Designer (for the kids), Web Form Builder, Web Video Player, Shopping Cart Creator, Shopping Cart Designer and Flash Website Search. My works in perpetual progress:

I totally agree!
I would also like it to display images in feeds!
That would be nice!
I'd go with that all - and especially the point about php.
I know it's a bit extreme - but what is the point of displaying RSS feeds on a site if they aren't in php and therefore visible to Search Engines?
I'd say this is top priority for Coffee Cup.
Cheers, Graham.
Hi, Scott,
I just published several feeds on the first page of my business site as examples for clients. (first time I have used the software)
I just noticed that the news feeds do not pause when moving the mouse over them as they do normally in most programs for installing them. This results in having to set the time for each much longer to give the viewer the chance to click on the link.
Have I missed something in my configuration or is this not available in this program? If not, I would suggest that this function be added.

RSS News..
I can think of three changes I would like to see. First is the ability to change the order of the listings. I usually end up going to the .txt and change them there. It would be nice to do within the program. I use this program for our school so I would create news scrolling on our site. Then I would get something to add that goes in the middle..the only way to do this is by editing the .txt file.
Second is the ability to center the text within the box. I was trying to setup a scrolling announcement that was 600 x 75 however the program does not allow you to move or center the text.
Third would be to add a play, pause, and forward, rewind, etc menu or buttons. I know you can move a mouse over it shows the up and down and will pause when mouse is over it. However, unless you move your mouse over it no one knows that option is there. Having a visable menu would be nice.

With you 100% here! I like to specify the order in which news items are presented, and this would make it a lot easier. A simple 'select item' and 'move up/move down' would do it, if feasible.
I like your other two thoughts, too, but this one is at the top of my wish list...
I agree with Ford Doctor on these:
* Program that can be loaded on a server
* Easy to use browser accessible back end
* Multiple feed aggregation
* Works with All RSS formats 0.9x, 1.x, 2.x and Atom
* Feed channel sorting and editing
* Auto updating output
* Implementation with a choice of Javascript, PHP or HTML code
* Customizable output: display tables, fonts, colors, backgrounds, borders using CSS or HTML
Especially - Implementation with a choice of Javascript, PHP or HTML code.
Any idea if a PHP capable version will be developed?
I would like to be able to choose how many items are displayed. It looks as though I can only display one news flash at a time. I would like to be able to choose up to 10 displayed with the option to stop the scrolling action.
If there is a way to do this with the current application, please let me know.
i'd really, really like to see:
1) ability to RANDOMIZE the display of feeds
2) ability to control how many feed items display
this tool makes it east for me to allow my content creators to create simple feeds. however, it does not yet provide enough control.
