I (like a dummy perhaps), selected to copy the converterd MP3 files to the same folder as the WAV originals.
But rather than them showing up in a convenient seperate area or slightly renamed, they
are right next to each other.
Like this --
file1.mp3
file1.wav
file2.mp3
file2.wav
is there some sort of windows trick where I can "filter" the mp3s or a piece of software that makes extracting these EASY?
I don't want to do ctrl-select on 200 files.

Just did a search on the folder *.mp3 and copied them.
Must be an easier way though.

Mike,
Using Windows, open the folder where the files are located.
Click on View then select "Arrange Icons By" and click on type. That should sort the MP3 files together. Then click on the top MP3, scroll down to the bottom, press and hold the shift key and click on the bottom MP3. That should have all the MP3 files highlighted so you can copy/paste, drag & drop, cut & paste, or whatever you want. Bill R.

Thanks BiIl -- I'll remember that.
I think one of my apps made all the icons the same though (music files -- whatever).

Mike,
The icons may be the same, the the sorting by type will separate by the extension.
So many programs want to change the icons when you install. Then there is the learning curve to recognize the new icon. It would make me pull my hair out if it wasn't almost gone already.

What annoys me about that Windows "by type" sort is it doesn't exactly work by the actual file suffix; it considers some different ones to be the same "type." For example, if I have a folder with a pile of .jpg files in it, and then convert them all to .png but mistakenly write the new ones into the same folder: they start out separate because Windows puts them at the end of the list at first, but the second you hit F5 or close/reopen the window it will have them all intermingled because they are all images and hence the same "type."
Annoying. The search filter is the best trick I know of to get them out of there. "You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline - it helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least you need a beer." -- Frank Zappa

Spinny,
I just tested the arrange by type, and it sorted by extension. I now have GIFs, JPGs, PNGs, and TIFs in that order.
I am using XP Pro service pack 3. Bill R.

I have the same OS, and for all the years I've had it I've never had it work for me like that.

Here's a sample screenshot. I have the same four images saved as .bmp and as .jpg. Click "type" to sort them, and this is what I get.

Spinny,
I left out something on my sort by type. I have Bitmap images, a EMF image, GIF images, GIMP images, an icon, JPEG images, PNG images, and a TIF image.
Somehow, you have set GIMP as your graphics default, and somewhere I did not.
Just another one of those Windows things that make you want to copy one of Bruzer's emoticons (the one throwing the monitor).
