I download a lot of music from Walmart.com. Unfortunately they only store .wma files. I need to convert these to mp3's to play on my Palm.

I downloaded MP3 Rip and Burn to convert these files, but every time I try the program completely crashes. I either receive the "Send a report to Microsoft" type crash or a "Runtime Error" type crash.

I've reinstalled and still nothing. What's going on? Is this a lost cause?

Are the wma files drm (digital rights management) protected? Right click on them in explorer and have a look see.

If they are chances are they can't be processed for converting. One of the joys of drm. Plans to Prosper

Yup, they are protected. Looks like I'm back to the old method...burn them onto a CD and then rip them back off as mp3's. Grrrrrr.

But still...should it just crash the program?

Can you burn them? I have some wmas that don't even let me burn them :( Depends on the level of drm.

You might save yourself a cd if you play them back using windows media and then pick up the output using a sound recorder like audacity. Then save that as a wav file and burn as usual.

Failing that just burn n rip! Plans to Prosper

The Wal-mart license allows you to burn 10 copies of the wma's you download. You can then rip the burned copy back to your hard drive as an mp3. By that time, though you lose the artist's name, song title, genre, etc. You waste a disk and a lot of time, but it works.

I was hoping this program would save some trouble. I'm glad I got it anyway. Just not sure what I'll be using it for. ;)

Well shoot, I was gonna run the program to check things out but mine crashes before even getting in. It's "experienced an error and needs to close" (AppName: coffeecupmp3rip&burn.exe AppVer: 4.0.0.0 ModName: mfc42.dll).
Guess I won't be of much help on this one. ;)

DRM is the devil. :P Funny, they come up with schemes like this to make you buy the music, but at the same time, they piss people off to the point where you don't want to buy it now.

Check this out, hopefully things will change:
