I looked at each post here but I did not do a search because most times the answers are limited to the correct thread.

I had a computer:

XP Home Editon and the Ripper installed ok and I used it a few times but then my computer crashed and I purchased a new one. About the same specs: XP Home edition, dual core 1.4 processors, 2gigs of rams and 750 gigs of hard drive.

I installed the new version of the Ripper and when I open it, it Windows reports a problem. It asks do I want to send the problem to Microsoft and I choose no. I click on the details of the problem and there is an exception, it also says something about the signature. I tried to do a screen capture but could not.

I was able to get this link that it tells me the details are there. I went there and found files that were similar but now the same exact number. I don't guess it will hurt to put the pathname here:

C:\DOCUME~1\RONALD~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\e863_appcompat.txt

I like the Ripper and would like to be able to use it but I am not sure what to do at this point. Could it be a codec problem? I do not think it could because that would be a problem for recording, right?

I have tried downloading a different program file with no luck. I have not tried the older version but I have a copy in my download folder if you think it maight install.

Thanks for any help and I hope I have included all the needed information.
Ron.

Hey R.G., I have a feeling there hasn't been a response since there's not much to go by in troubleshooting this one. Does it happen every time you run the program? If so, do you think you could provide perhaps something specific mentioned with the exception error, perhaps a filename if it shows one? If you want to do a snapshot, hitting the PrtSc key should copy your desktop to the clipboard for copying to MS Paint or another graphic app. If during the crashes you've had a music CD in the tray, try running the app w/o a cd and see if it still crashes. At least then we know it's not happening while attempting to read the disc. I have very few CDs (and they're really old), so I haven't seen how the app reacts to newer discs that may have copy protections. http://www.flashstrap.com

Thanks for the reply Adam. It takes place right after the initial installation. The error comes up when I try to start the program. I have never put a disk in. I will go now and try to open the program and I will write as much as I can but after the initial statement there is a pile of digits like a stack dump or something.

I'll be back with more info in a bit.

Is this telling me that I need to register the program? I can't remember if I had it registered on the other machine or not.

Hi,

The ModName in this error is mfc42.dll which is an IE dependency. That does not happen when I test here. I'm using XP Home SP2 P4 1.8Ghz 512megs ram.

I found this help article (doing a search) here at Coffeecup referring to HTML Editor but may work for you..

Receiving mfc42.dll error

Good luck. Let's not get all hurt.

Thanks, I will try those two steps but I have one question. If I rename the MFC42.dll will any other programs stop working? I have 20 or so Coffee Cup programs, do any others share this file?

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
