I want to thank Scott and Eric once again for all their help in assisting me in ironing out the kinks that I had actually placed without knowing in the installation of live chat. I do have a few more questions now that it appears to be up and running fine. I hope someone can help me out with these final details.

1) How do I get my chat on my site to show as offline? I thought all I had to do was shut the program down on my side and it would automatically show as offline but, apparently, I was wrong since that hasn't worked for me. Is there something in the settings I need to adjust? If so, what do I do and do I need to republish the chat?

2) I have updated all of my links 3 times so far. For some reason they don't last through a new publishing of my site even though I've saved them each time. My site is in a state of flux right now as I continue to see things that need tweaking. If I have to do the link adjusting every time I republish, can I make the change somewhere else that would be more of a long term solution?

3) Is it possible for me to have my son or daughter, neither of whom live at home, help me in monitoring my chat? If so, how would I go about doing that and what would their requirements be on their end?

4) The auto mailing of the chat transcript is not working to my knowledge. At least it didn't work after a chat with my husband. Do I need to adjust something in the settings for that to happen too? If so, what?

5) When I purchase the live chat software, do I need to republish everything so that it knows it's now purchased and won't send the buy now message to chattees any longer?

Thank you for any and all help you can give me with these questions.

No problem at all ;)

1. Because that image is a static one, it will not update to show your chat status. You may want to use something more generic.

2. What Web editor are you using?

3. Only one admin can be logged in at a time. You can send them all your chat files so that they can log in from their computer if you cannot monitor the chat.

4. This is a known bug and was just fixed along with quite a few other items. We hope to have that live in 1-2 weeks.

5. All you will need to do is install the registered version, open your saved chat, re-save and upload.

Just in regards to number 1: Make sure you are saving your html document after you have made your changes. I know it sounds simple, but as web developers we are constantly making changes and saving might be something easily forgotten. The philosopher has not done philosophy until he has acted upon the mere conviction of his idea; for proof of the theory is in the act, not the idea.

Hi Guys,

Thanks again. As far as saving my code after updating it, thanks for the note because I do tend to forget to do that.

And, as far as the html editor I'm using, I don't. It may sound foolish but I haven't seemed to figure them out yet. I've heard the coffeecup html editor is a good one, but I'm not sure how to go about using it. Should I copy and paste the code into the box then somehow set it to look for errors in the code? At any rate, I usually just eyeball the code and make the necessary changes.

I have another kind of related question. Last night I bought the coffeecup web search software. Today I plan to buy the chat and possible a couple of others. Is the pack you design yourself to get 25 to 40 percent off only good on the titles listed under it in that category or does the discount apply to any 3 to 5 software titles. All of the software I'm interested in are in different packages and I can't afford to buy them all. But a discount for multiple titles would be nice. If anyone can answer that it would be great.

And thanks for the answers you've given me already.

Scott,

I have a follow up question about sending my son and daughter my chat files so they can monitor the site when I can't. Which files do they need and how do I get them? I was foolishly thinking they would just need to download the program but obviously that wouldn't work in and of itself. But I'm unsure of exactly what I would have to do to enable them to help out. If you could elaborate a bit, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks again, Scott and Eric.

First, they will need the chat program to read the files. Second, if you don't have an html editor how are you editing code? The philosopher has not done philosophy until he has acted upon the mere conviction of his idea; for proof of the theory is in the act, not the idea.

Hi Eric,

I do have an html editor. I just don't use it, for all the good that does me. LOL. To answer your question, I edit it manually. I go through and eyeball it and look for things that don't look right, then I make changes and do it that way. I'm sure this is the hard way of doing things but, I'm so used to it that it goes relatively quickly. I guess I should check out the html editor forum to get some clue as to how to use it. I probably will do just that as soon as I get caught up on everything else I've been doing.

I also would like to look into sitemapper, flash ads, and a couple of other programs to dress up my site a bit. But I have to get everything done with the live chat first.

So, my children have to download live chat, and then I have to send them what files to enable them to help me? And, if you can, would you point me to a good html forum topic to review to get a good overview of the program and how it works?

I can't thank you and Scott enough for all the help you've given me. I've been impressed with the effectiveness of the forum on this site. It has convinced me to stick with coffeecup software for the support that comes with it. Thanks, again.

That is what we are here for.... ;)

If you are coding manually, here is the code you will want to place on each of your pages: This is basically what you have now but modified to work on any page through your Website since you have sub-directories.

What I would recommend is you take a look at our HTML Editor or Direct FTP program. Both of these will allow you to edit your Website directly on your server and it includes a full HTML Editor as well. I think you will find them both extremely easy to use.

Thanks, Scott. I appreciate that info. I'll check out both programs to see how they work and which one I'd prefer.

I'm sorry if it seems like I'm beating a dead horse on this other matter, but I'm still not clear on what files to send my children so they can help me monitor my site with the live chat. I guess I have them download the software but how do they link it to my site? If you could elaborate a little more for me I'd appreciate it.
