OK, I've had CC software since about 2001 and used HTML Editor to create my company web site. It was great. Well, business dried up and so did the site, but now I'm back and looking to re-issue the old web site or create a new one.
Of course the first thing I did was update all my CC software. I attempt to create a new site and I've had nothing but problems getting it to my liking. I've tried one from scratch, I've tried using a template, etc. for the life of me I can't get things to work. Maybe I'm over thinking things? But all I know is the whole approach has changed and maybe that's what's causing me issues? I figured it would be easier than it was 10 odd years ago, but I'm not able to accomplish anything I'm looking to do.
I know this is pretty generic in details but it's covering everything I'm running into....I can't figure out how to modify a theme or template (like if the one I like is based on "red" but I want it to be "green", I can't change the colors, etc.). I'm to the point of having to hire someone to build me a site, which is the complete opposite of why I have this software.
I'm going to give it one more try but I'm at wit's end on what I'm doing wrong.

Image editing isn't something you can do with the HTML Editor, and that's what you'd need to do to change image colors. The problem you're having with changing the colors of something like text and such is because it's done using CSS now instead of adding all the code into the HTML files. If you were doing this 10 years ago, you most likely didn't use CSS and would just add the styling of font type and colors and backgrounds etc. right into the HTML file. Things aren't done that way anymore though and I would highly suggest you take a look around on this site and see if their tutorials will help you out there. HTML is a bit different now too so it might be a good idea to go through the tutorials for both HTML and CSS. We have also a new HTML5 and CSS3 versions available too, but I would start with the basic HTML tutorial and CSS tutorials first to get some background knowledge before starting on those.

Good luck in your new ventures, it's quite nice the way things are done now compared to the old way, but it does take a bit of learning.

CDS, The CSS styling with a style sheet is the way to go. Link all your pages to one sheet and change the styling in one spot to change all the pages at the same time.
You do a little reading and start playing with the examples in those links that JoAnn provided and you'll be up to speed in no time. There's always plenty of experts here to help you out if you get stuck.
