Totally lost-Need to edit home page...

I'm hoping someone can help me. My work had a website built about 10 years ago by an outside company. Since that time I have been tasked with updating it from time to time. This is not my line of work and I know next to nothing about building sites or using an HTML editor. Most of what I do is manipulate the Access database that holds our vendor names and information and then upload it to the site using an FTP tool. We have PDF line cards that get updated as well. There have been a few occassions when I needed to edit some text on the website that did not fall within the Access database. That is when I found CoffeeCup and was able to use the HTML editor to change a few things when needed. All that has worked just fine until recently. I now need to change some verbiage on the home page and I cannot find what file it is I need to edit! I thought it would have been the "index" file but I find that file in several different folders on the site and none of them have the text I need to change.
Anyway, suggestions on what I should be looking for?

If the text is being displayed on your 'Home' page, then it is either in the index.html file in your root, or it is being loaded into that file from somewhere else. You'll just have to go through the code and see what's being added and from where and search those files. Not always an easy task. Might talk to the boss and tell him it's time to hire a webmaster to update your site. Will cost a few dollars but you'd probably have a much nicer site, and a lot more modern. Be sure to go 'responsive' so it will look good on tablet and phones as well! Sorry I can't be more help.

Hang on though. Someone else may jump in here, you never know . . .

I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

The first block of text on the far left side is what I'm looking for.

Oh, this made me laugh! That guy left years ago and we got an "IT" company instead. :(

That sounds expensive!

Might want to tell Eric what 'text' you are looking to change too. He'd find it quicker :D

your looking for
index.asp
at the root of your site.
I'm thinking a file below the / but not in a folder.

An 'IT' company is not necessarily able to create/edit websites. I guess it is more of a watch dog, to ensure your connections inside the company and to the outer world are working.

Rex, I can see by the design, and above all by the code, that this is a very old site. Your company would surely want to appear as modern, or at least up to date, so once you get around this editing you need to do now, you ought to check what the sites of competing companies look like, and then launch into a new design. Website building isn't exactly rocket science. Here in these forums you will get all the help you need, just holler. :)
Ha en riktig god dag!
