Still experiencing 30-45 second delay (HTML Editor window and Code Editor tab are locked) after clicking on Preview tab. Why is HTML Editor doing this? [HTML Editor 12 build 375]

You are using an old version.
Download the current version (12.7 Build 456) and see if that helps.

Jim, if you have contents that needs to be generated online, like a google map or so, it always takes longer in preview. As soon as you get the pages online, it will be much quicker.
Ha en riktig god dag!

Yep always best to comment out some of the "non-essential" scripts that may be causing it while you work on the site, then uncomment them when you're ready to upload it for testing or to go live. There are definitely scripts doing that on your pages.

Hi Per. Yeah. Using older version on purpose. Not a big fan of the Preview method on newer versions. Maybe if I had a 32" monitor so spread out on ... ;) but c'est la vie! This is still the best HTML editor IMHO (and I also continue to believe that the 1992 Honda Accord interior was the best design ever)! :D

Hi Jo Ann (congrats) and Inger. Ran into that with the weather dot com code in case you missed my clumsy, elaborate commenting scheme to keep that beast out of the way.

To all: What happened is that at the same time I upgraded to version 12 I also added Facebook links to the page. As part of that, I dutifully added a Facebook function definition as instructed. Reviewing the code as suggested here, it turns out to be the Facebook function that was adding a 60-second delay every time the page was previewed. :(

 Another case of where more is ... well, more! And, as it turns out, unnecessary as well; the FB links work perfectly fine without the function and the page loads faster to boot! Doh!

Thanks everyone ... and to all ... a good night.

Glad you got it worked out Jim, you should give the new version another shot, the features of the Preview window are quite useful and extensive compared to the old version. The ability to click something in the code and have it highlight it in the preview window and visa versa alone is a humongous help. Anyways, up to you, glad you got it all sorted. Thanks also *puffs up in Proud Grandma Stance* :)

Just wanted to say a big "Thank You!!!" to the Advisor's on this thread. I too was experiencing long long lag times between viewing, as well as having to close my split screen each time I edited. So I removed my Google Analytics coding at the bottom of the page and "Wallah!!!" It now works like a dream! I can't tell you how thrilled I am to see my editing on the split screen while I am typing! Again, Thank you!!

Been having the same issue with Google Analytics and tried inserting as a PHP script per instructions in advice email from Google. Works and does not need the code to be commented out and possibly being forgotten when uploaded to site.
