I'm tryting to add transparency to an Animated GIF I created with Flash Firestarter 7.2. I've tried just about everything in the manual coding of the HTML, but cannot make it work......any suggestions would be appreciated..I'm using IE 7.0. These are the things I've added:

Object:

param name="wmode" value="transparent"

Embed:

wmode="transparent"
allowtransparency="true"

Thanks!

HI, just asking but have you tried opening your project in Firestarter and selecting the transparency option by checking the box to see if that works?

Actually no, I haven't. I don't quite grasp the concept with the projects/movies/2000 boxes to check, etc.. Your demo on creating the flash and embedding it seamed very simple and clean. I have tried numerous manual changes to the code, but cannot make it transparent. Even the free ones I find on the web that state they are transparent do not appear so when I test them on the page...maybe I don't really know what "transparent" means??? I'm trying to drop animated flag gifs throughout my website...just tiny, waving flags. but they all have white backgrounds that I can't get rid of...

withoutanet,

You need to add a transparency layer and then remove the white background from the GIFs. You can do that with your favorite graphics program. I personally use GIMP. GIMP is powerful and the price is wonderful (free). Bill R.

wihoutanet,
try this flag gif, you don't need to use it Firestarter, just add it to you page. or you can try it in firestarter. however using a pre-animated gif will not work in Firestarter.
On that note, sometimes transparent gif's don't work unless they are uploaded if your using VSD, Have you tried that also? Just using preview doesn't cut it.

While creating transparent GIFs, I just opened a pre-made transparent GIF from the web and then selected everything and hit delete to give me a blank transparent background to play with. You can always resize it to your needs.

There are a lot of people having problems with GIFs and Coffecup's Visual Site Designer.. It will convert your GIF into a JPG (and rename it) causing the transparency to become non so transparent. How I get around the issue is to open the finished site (HTML file) with Notepad and then change the file name back to "example.gif" and then copy and paste the actual gif into the file folder.

For example, the GIF I inserted was the first picture so it renamed my "example.gif" to "IMG_0.jpg". Once you swap out the files and file names, just hit save on your Notepad and you should be back in action.

Hope this works for you all. If so, could you please copy this reply into any relative forum. Thanks.

and whenyou upload it again it overwrites what code you've changed everytime, if you don't mind doing it that way. "It's A Smart Person That Asks"
