Checkbox Validation

I have a need to setup a form that will give the user a choice of selecting from 4 mailing lists (using checkboxes)

The user can select anywhere from 1 to 4, but must select at least 1.

Is this doable with the Coffee Cup Web Form builder?

Thanks in advance

Al

Yes I would think it is. If you include a checkbox system on it you can create a checkbox for each of the Mailing Lists you want them to choose from. The email it sends you will spit out something like this:

Newsletter 1: checked
Newsletter 2:
Newsletter 3: checked
Newsletter 4: checked

This would tell you they are intereseted in all except the one that isn't checked being the 2nd one. Pretty simple setup.

I'm not sure how the "must select 1" part would go, but I'm sure it can be done in some way. I know you can make fields required, but not sure on how "choices" would be unless you created it in a dropdown list in some way. Jo Ann

Appreciate the reply. Setting up the choices is easy and understood but the checkbox "must select 1" is the part I am looking to nail down.

Checking now to see how this works for checkboxes, I had previously typed what I "thought" would work, but now see it won't so I deleted my post lol Jo Ann

I'm looking at the program now, and I'm thinking you could do a List instead of check boxes maybe? Put instructions on how to highlight multiple selections either in the form or above the form on your HTML page itself and that would handle it to make sure it's required as it has a "required" setting.

Although the checkboxes DO have a required setting, they aren't tied together so I don't see a way to have it required to check at least one, I think it's a toggle for each checkbox rather than all checkboxes together so I don't think that will work for you.

I think we'll need to make some suggestions on the Form Builder, I'll write this stuff down for later, because I'm sure that there should be a way to tie checkboxes together in some way, or to do a Multiple Checkbox setup that is one element or even have it let you make it "read only" as well as "checked", or something like that so that you can do what you're trying to do.
Right now you can have it default to "checked", but without a "read only" setting they can uncheck it when they are filling out the form so that won't help you either.

Hopefully the List setting might help you though :) Jo Ann

Your analysis is correct... you have detailed what needs to be done for checkboxes.

As for using a list, I undestand that option but having used it before deciding on chekboxes, I found that the technically challenged have issues with selecting more than one item... even if instructions are provided...

I would have to agree with you on that point, hence why so many people want to use checkboxes instead. I would suggest that you put that in the Suggestions area for Form Builder and I'll 2nd it with you as we need more checkbox capabilities I think :) Jo Ann
