Is it possible using Flash Firestarter to make a piece of text light up for a few seconds in a similar way to the logo here...

For the right to left motion, you would have to use masking. Firestarter does have that ability, if I remember correctly.

Can you advise me if there are any tutorials on how to use masking in Firestarter?

I found a tutorial online on masking but it looks like Firestarter doesn't support this.
