Maybe he means '...for the life of the programme'? I for once, think the refund/exchange sounds ok. Just imagine getting SCCP for the price of Firestarter...

How is that anyway, if someone asks for support for Firestarter, what kind of support - if any - can they expect from now on? A way to come away from flash alltogether? I have in two cases today recommended converting the swf file to a video file and use html5's 'native video', but what about those who can't use html5 (VSD users mainly)? Have you checked if the CC video player is still working under the latest flash update?

We have run tests on all of our Flash programs, and only Firestarter is effected with the latest Flash update. We will still provide technical support for the program, but there will just not be any new versions of the software.

I take it that if we purchased Firestarter longer than 6 months ago we are on our own.

Since you purchased Firestarter in 2008, yes, the refund or exchange would not apply.

I probably bought Firestarter the moment you introduced it many, many years ago. I now face the problem that once people update their Flash to version 11 and beyond, one of the things that I created in Firestarter will be visible. I already tested this out by updating Flash to the latest version and as I suspected, the headers that I built in Firestarter were not visible. I then reverted to Flash 10 and they again were visible.
So what do I do now? This program is going to be useless to me as soon as users update their version of Flash.
Being someone who has been using your software since your company began, I think that giving only those who recently purchased Firestarter the opportunity to choose any new application a bit unfair to those who bought it earlier. Now I must another similar application to Firestarter....

Yes, it’s really unfortunate that the program is no longer as effective as it used to be and we greatly sympathize with all of our customers during this process. However, I think getting a refund or exchange for a purchase made ten years ago would be unlikely from any company. In reality, we really did not even have to give any refunds/exchanges at all, but we always like to make things right with our customers and going back 6 months is very fair and reasonable. The fact that you received over ten years of free upgrades on a single purchase is a fantastic deal by itself!

You know, I think maybe we should all e-mail MS and see if they will refund our $ from Win 3.1

Just goes to show that no matter what lengths a company goes to, you're not going to please everyone. I for one think that CC is, and always has, gone above and beyond. Most other companies in this business (technology) would just shrug it off as part of the 'volatility of tech'.
Living the dream, stocking the cream
I also bought FireStarter years ago. I appreciate the free downloads of upgrades offered by CoffeeCup and utilize that feature often.
I don't expect a refund for FireStarter. What I DO expect, however, is to have the products that I purchase and use supported. It would have been completely different if we had advance notice that the program was going to be phased out. I could have planned ahead and made a good choice for a replacement program and then have updated my customers websites before this happened.
Instead, I get a nasty surprise on Friday with a customer wanting to know why the logo on his website has disappeared, and now I have a bunch of broken websites, and some soon to be very unhappy customers. Now I'm having to scramble to get something up and running as fast as I can on every website where I used FireStarter. It won't even cycle through photos. It's embarrassing to have a website that I designed and support all of the sudden quit working. It makes it look like I don't know what I am doing, or I am not keeping up with trends.
I'm sorry, but, I don't think it's right to wait until the software breaks and then decide that it won't be supported. I'm sorry if that makes anyone angry, but, that's how I see it.
Brenda, this is not like something we had any advanced warning for. Customers started reporting problems with the latest
Adobe Flash 11.x update. It was then and only then did we realize how large scale the issue was. This was not something malicious that we just up and decided to implement because we needed something to do. This was an update from Adobe that caused the problems. In reality, we should all be upset at them.

You also purchased the software back in 2001, so the fact that you received over ten years of free upgrades on a single purchase is a fantastic deal by itself!
Now we will still offer technical support for Firestarter, so if you need help with the program, we are still here for you. What you will not see from CoffeeCup is any upgrades to the program.
