I've spent about 20 hours on using Firestarter and have encountered the following problems. They happen repeatedly and predictably, so I think they are genuine bugs... unless someone can suggest how to fix them.
1. I always get a Windows error message when I exit the program by any means, even when Firestarter didn't crash. ("FireStarter.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.")
2. Fade out of music soundtrack doesn't work. After selecting "Fade Out" for the soundtrack, it still just cuts off suddenly when the movie ends.
3. After changing opacity, a warning comes up ("Opacity is not visible while you are editing your movie...") with a checkbox to "Don't show this message again." However, after checking this box, the warning continues to come up every time I alter the opacity slider.
4. In the "Files to Upload" box that comes up after saving the .fire file, the file location path is too long to be fully visible (and the box is not expandable). Also, there should be the option to not see this box every time because it's just for information and isn't normally needed when I'm saving work repeatedly as I go.
5. About every third time I save my .fire file, I don't get the "Files to Upload" box - after which, I can't preview the movie (sometimes clicking the preview movie icon at this stage causes Firestarter to instantly crash), and I can't save the file again - so I have to exit out (the .fire file does save properly, but no new swf or html files are created).
6. When I save the file to swf without first saving the .fire project, and then save the .fire project, Firestarter instantly crashes. Or if I view the movie without saving first, then save the .fire project, Firestarter instantly crashes.
7. Some fonts (e.g. Festival, Venus Rising) do not sit correctly in the text box - the tops of the letters are chopped off. They appear okay in the flash movie, but the placement doesn't match up with the working file so they are impossible to align.
8. When I change the opacity of an object to, say, 58%, and then add another object, it comes in at the same opacity (58%) and its opacity slider only goes to 58% instead of 100%.

I've just tried out the trial version. WOW...do I ever get this error!!! Along with it I get "Runtime error 216 at 00404212... so many iterations that it fills my screen and locks up my computer. I guess this is one piece of software to stay away from!
I was having a friend check out the trial version of this a couple days ago too, I told him to make an account here and post his problem, but I don't think he's going to lol.
He also had this same problem, basically locked him up completely every time he tried to do something in any of the CC software he was trying out, but.... we are pretty sure he's fixed them by doing one simple thing...
Setting the programs to load with Admin privs. He's on Windows Vista and Vista is a real pain with that darn setting that you have to put on just about everything to make it work right.
Another thing to try, since some of these programs can tend to be older than others, is to set them to Windows XP compatibility if you're using a newer OS. See if one of those solutions help you Robert and let us know. Jo Ann

I have XP Pro! I have only experienced this with Firestarter. The other trial versions have worked ok
Try reinstalling it maybe? I've done things in firestarter a couple weeks ago (well ok attempted but.. LOL) and I never had any problems.
Turn off your firewall if you can, I've had difficulties and so have quite a few others with installations being corrupt because our firewall programs are not allowing us to install programs correctly.
See if either of these works and let us know. Jo Ann

Okay...tried all suggestions. No fix. When I close the program (whether I do anything within the program or not) i get the MS error saying the Firestarter experienced an error and is being shut down. The I get those runtime error messages. Each time I click okay, an identical one comes up...80 times before they went away. Each time I had to click the "Don't send error". Even the task manager cannot escape from them. I have removed the program. Will not purchase!
Well hmm, I'm sorry to hear that it gave you those problems, and I wish I knew what else to tell you on it as it is definitely a nice program so far from what I've seen on it. I don't do flash stuff so I'm unfamiliar with it, but I am on Windows XP Pro also and had no trouble with it like you're having. I would suggest you send in a ticket to support on this and see if they can help you address what might be causing it. Might just be a conflict with something else, but I can assure you that in the end it would be worth that effort

I think I will just select the few CC programs that are the most popular and leave the rest alone until they are upgraded. Based on the other forums that I read, a number of those programs have bugs that are not going to be addressed because of other priorities. I would rather spend a few dollars more for something that works and is fully supported than save a few bucks purchasing a bundle of buggy software.
Hi everyone,
This is a known issue with the trial version of Firestarter, but the registered version will not crash when you try to exit the program. The developers will be correcting it for the next version as soon as our new Flash framework is ready.
