This can happen even if you are running as an Administrator, and it is caused by Windows very strict security settings.

To fix this configure the shortcut to always run as administrator. Here's how:

1. Right-click the shortcut icon, and click Properties.
2. Click the Compatibility tab.
3. Here, put a check mark by Run This Program as an Administrator.
4. Next, put a check mark next to Run This Program in Compatibility Mode For: and ensure Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3 is selected.
5. Click OK.

In the end your settings should match this:

If you continue having problems you may also need to set the application as an exception to Windows Data Execution Prevention (DEP) feature. Normally if this is the culprit, you'll get a little bubble along the taskbar notifying you, which will allow you to set the offender as an exception.

One last option that could be the cause of this, and related to the DEP feature, is User Account Controls. This is the large window that appears in Vista asking you to "Allow" or "Deny" access to functions within programs. You can turn this off within your Control Panel > User Accounts window, along the left-hand pane.

All three options let you control your system exactly how you want and give you full access to do/run anything on the computer.

Great, it launches now but it won't let me preview my site in Chrome because I'm running as administrator.

Hi Boyd, not sure that caused the issue with chrome. I run my VSD in administrator mode and i have no issues with preview in chrome. What does it do when you try to preview in chrome?

Steve, I get a pop-up that says:"This app can't open while file explorer is running with administrator privileges. Restart file explorer normally and try again." - But if I do that I won't be able to run VSD will I?

Another issue...If I create a shape and give it a fill, VSD won't accept any changes to the original colour. Also if I click the fill icon on the toolbar. a window opens but it's completely empty, only the window frame appears.

Update: I'm finding most of the toolboxes open as frames only when selected from the icons on the toolbar.

This seems like it is the result of a bad install. What I would like for you to do is uninstall the application. To do this, go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the program.

Once you have completed this process, visit https://www.coffeecup.com/login/ and enter your email address and password, and click the My Products button to download and then install a fresh copy of the application.

We have also seen problems with missing or 'irregular' things showing up if a non-standard windows theme is installed. I do not have Win8 yet but on Win7 the basic standard theme works best. Use any of the fancy themes and things go awry! Not sure if this is your problem or what theme you have installed, but you might try changing it ( if it's not the standard one ) and see if it makes any difference.

As far as your Chrome browser goes ... try right-clicking the Chrome icon and set it to always run in administrator mode. ( not sure if that is the same way as Win7 ). I'm just thinking that if VSD is in admin mode and Chrome is set to run in admin mode, they should work together :/ maybe ...
