VSD and jQuery menus

Hi Everyone,

I'm in the process of finishing my first website ever and I've seen a menu effect that I absolutely love. However, I'm not sure if this can be incorporated into VSD or not. An example of that menu type is found on this website, at the very top:

http://apycom.com/

I don't really need any drop down types of menues, i'd just like the fancy sliding effect that happens as the mouse moves from one menu heading to the other. I see that it is jQuery, and to be honest I'm not really sure what that is, not to sound stupid, but I don't know a single line of HTML, CSS, jQuery, etc. I've done my enitre site so far in VSD, Lightbox, Photoshop, and Illustrator. All visually based tools.

Can someone tell me if this type of menu is possible to do in VSD for free and easily? I don't want to have to spend hours and hours learning code at this point -- perhaps down the road, but not now. The above link has a paid plugin that you can download (I'd have to get the paid version as this is my business site that I'm working on). I'd like to be able to do this for free, but have no clue how or if this is even possible.

Thanks for any replies!

Sure can,
JQuery works really well with VSD. Take a look at my site in my sig. I have all kinds of JQuery on board.
I can help you later this evening if you find one that you want.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

WOW man!!!!!!! You have some COOL stuff on your site -- ok, I'm totally thinking of redoing some things now after seeing your examples -- I've seen all of these things on the web but had no idea VSD could do these things. I need to thouroughly look over your site examples better and get back with you on any questions. Is this stuff compatibably with most broswers by they way? I'm excited, this is way cool.

Let me digest all of this tonight and get back with you sometime over the weekend.

Thank you very much for your post and examples, this is really cool!

Hi Eric,

OK, I've gone through everything on your site. I do have a few questions.

1) the stationary background image is just fantastic. I'm seriously thinking about doing this, but haven't made up my mind yet. I tested it using your direction in VSD and no problems. My questions is, will this work in all current browsers? I only have IE 9 on my machine. Will this work on FF, Chrome, on Macs etc? Have you tested it? I'ts important to me because I'm using the site to launch my businees so I've got to make sure it works well so as not to run off anyone! I'm thinking about keeping the site really simple until I get the business off the ground and then adding more "pizzaz" as I go along.

2) For the stationary background image, does it matter where i place the HTML box on my VSD page? Does it matter what size it is?

3) Also, the accordian text effect -- will this also work in all current browsers?

4) Do you use the HTML editor, or just VSD?

Thanks Eric, I appreciate the help!!!

#1 Yes it seems to work in every browser I have. 6 and counting. What I've found out, if it will work in IE 9 it will most likely work in the rest of the browsers.

#2 You won't be using a HTML box for the stationary page background. Insert it to the Head of the page.;)

#3 See #2

#4 I use both. I usually get my code working in the HTML editor first then make all the tweaks to it so it will be VSD complaint. I don't have to make changes to most examples I post. Some of the JQuery stuff I've been messing around with did need a special tweak for it to work properly with VSD.:)

Hi Erik,

Thanks for the answers, good to know! I do have one more questions regarding your response on #2 -- how do i insert HTML without creating the HTML Box? How do i get the HTML code into the head of the page without creating the box, is a better way to work this I think.

Thanks again,
Ryan

Hi Again Erik,

Btw, I did find the "Edit Header" under the Edit menu in VSD, however, when I add the code and then the image, it's the only thing I can see when I preview the page, nothing else will show up that I create on the page. So, I'm assuming that I'm not doing this correctly,

Can you share a link to your page? It will make it easier to help.:)

Hi Erik,

I don't have the page posted yet, I'm only doing a test file to practice the stationary background image process. I can send you a link to an uploaded VSD file you can download if you want to.

Is the process, from scratch, I open VSD, then

1) go to the Edit Menu, then "Edit Header" then past the code from your site into the "header html" 2) change the name of the image to my image's name then close the box
3) go to the Edit Menu, then add files, then add the image
4) at this point when i preview, the image is there in the background.

However, no matter what I add to the page, a box, an image, text, etc nothing shows up but the background image.

On the flipside, If i create an HTML box somewhere on the actual page, and paste in your code and add my image, I dont' have any problems.

I'm sure I'm doing something simple wrong.

Thanks,
Ryan
