Problem with wingding/webdings on...

On my contact page I have used wingdings and/or webdings to ID how to contact us. A phone gives our home phone number; an envelope with a stamp gives our snail mail address. Get the picture... On IE it looks fine. But on Mozilla, it is incorrect. I have researched Character Mapsets, the forums, control, alt, copy then alt and the code for a symbol....nothing has solved the problem. The property of each symbol, since it is text, is set at "advanced", making it an image, but that doesn't work. What I have not tried yet because I don't have Photoshop on this PC (my copy is ancient, but works great on XP) is to create an image of the symbol. I've even edited the page in Firebug. Short of the graphic route, any suggestions on how to get around this? Take your time...it's late and I'm bushed. This DST is killing me! Thanks...

What version of Mozilla are you using? For me here, http://www.oursmithmtlakehome.com/Contact.html is showing everything correctly.

My question would be: Which version are YOU using? I'm on the latest (27.0.1) and I see the same as Steve.

Since I'm not using VSD, I may be way off here, but I see that the code does not include any charset declaration. So obviously a browser may treat the wingdings as their 'default' font, the same as on the rest of the page. Besides, since wingdings/webdings are not 'web fonts', my guess is that you need to make and upload a web font kit if you want to use them. But don't ask me how that can be accomplished in VSD. (I would have known how to do it in the Editor, though.)

Came to think about it: VSD has this option of 'advanced text', and that might be the solution here.

My question would be this...are you dead set on using wingdings ?? Why not use standard icons ?? CoffeeCup sells tons of these if you don't have any... https://www.coffeecup.com/store/graphics/graphics/bundle/web-graphics/

Gosh...you guys must stay up all night or get up before the rooster crows!
Scott...Mozilla version 27.0.1
Steve...I get what you got, except for those little curly looking things. I don't get those. I plan on trying Chrome tonight but it is not currently loaded on my PC. I actually hate Chrome.
Inger...I am using the "advanced" option. I don't know anything about web font kits, but I will research this tonight and thanks for the suggestion.
Gunsmoke...I only used the "dings" because of convenience. I like the way they look...plain and simple.

I appreciate all your input. I have to get to work now and will act upon all this tonight. Thanks...
PS: Any of you guys interested in lakefront in Virginia?:)

Inger, my home would make an excellent winter residence for you. Our lowest temps were single digits this winter which still probably would feel warm for you! But you live in a wonderful country. I nearly blew away at Nord Kapp.
Here's my progress report: I researched "web font kits" and I think these are way beyond my comprehension level. I subscribe to the KISS principle. I created a .jpg graphic with Photoshop. Even though it was set as "transparent", the image shows up with a white background. I created it in .png with the same results. I don't know how to create it in .gif, but I plan on researching that next. It is published like that just to get rid of the funky characters, but I don't like it. I will touch bases again soon.

Even though it was set as "transparent", the image shows up with a white background.

Photoshop is way out of my price range. But GIMP is a free graphics tool and can remove that white background and give you a transparent PNG. Takes a little work and in the case of your icons, maybe a bit more since they are black/white. Tough to remove the background and not the white inside the icon. But should be able to do it.

Eric's way is probably the easiest, but just in case I thought I would mention GIMP.
