Linking PDF files in VSD to open...

Hi. I am new to using VSD and have a number of links to PDF files in my web pages. Right now the PDFs open in a separate window and you have to click the back button to get back to the webpage/website. I would like the pages to open without moving away from the actual web page. I know in the Link box there is an option called Target that has choices and I thought that might control the way the pdf opens, but it doesn't seem to change anything when I have tried this. I suspect that is for a URL link. Anyway, is there a way to have the PDF file open on the same website screen? Bee bee

Hi there Roberta,

You were correct the target is the key. You want to set them to "_blank" for your pdf's to open in a new page.

What I want is for the PDF file to open right on the web page where the link is. I don't want users to have to click the back button on the new PDF window to get back to the web site. Is that the way Blank works, because I have tried it and it still open a new window not on the webpage. Bee bee

Yes using the target attribute of _blank will force the PDF, or any other page you would put that attribute on, to open in a new page on it's own and would leave the original page the link was clicked on open so the user can just switch back to it. :)

I guess I did a crummy job of explaining myself. I did not want viewers of the PDF to leave the website, and I was hoping the PDF file would open as an overlay on the actual web page. I had been testing out the software blue voda and that seemed to be the way a linked PDF opened on the webpage in the right corner area of the webpage and was about a 3x3 screen with scroll bars and I liked that feature. I guess there really isn't a way to do that with VSD. Bee bee

This method gives the best of both worlds.

Ok i gotcha. Out of the box there is no way to get VSD to do that. Have you tried to add an iframe?

<iframe src="my.pdf"></iframe>

I haven't tested it myself just found it in a post:
