So I tried to publish and it goes to:

www.mysite.com/public_html/index.html

I want it to publish to www.mysite.com
Is there a way to make coffeecup publish to the correct URL? Why is this part "public_html/index.html" added to the URL?! I don't want that!

I also host on GoDaddy.com..... and I'm used to publishing a webite onto my hard drive, then uploading to the godaddy server. How can I do this?

That's not the problem I have.... I can publish, but the name is wrong. Eric, I don't think you understand my issue. When I publish, it gets published... however, the "/public_html/index.html" gets AUTOMATICALLY added to the URL. I don't want that gibberish to be automatically added. That's a "dealbreaker" for me and Coffeecup if that is a standard feature and cannot be fixed.

Is there some way I can just publish the darned thing as an html file? Like MS Publisher & Dreamweaver does?

Exactly. It's a server (Go Daddy) issue not a VSD issue.;) You have to set your ftp settings specifically for GoDaddy. I don't use them but know there has been many users on here trying to find the proper ftp settings to publish their websites.
I found a better article.
