Defect in resolving conflicting image...

Well, actually it's not that I'm using the same name. I'm using a fully unique name.

I built my site by replicating pages throughout. VSD, at some point, begins to replicate the images, building repeated exact duplicate image files. Why it does this, I haven't figured out. But when it replicates these files, it names the the first one IMG_1 and then increments from there.

So I'm not the one creating duplicate file names. VSD is randomly creating the duplicate files and naming them, and there's no intelligence in their naming convention. So, if there is a user supplied file called IMG_20 that I have put onto a page, when VSD compiles the site, while it's assigning file names to the duplicate image files that it's creating, when it gets to generating IMG_20, it will overwrite my file.

That's really the issue. Has nothing to do me having duplicate file names. Has everything to do with me using a file name of the similar syntax that VSD uses. In this case I was using an image called IMG_84, and it was the only image called IMG_84 that I have. The issue is that VSD wrote over it without checking to see if I had a file of the same name in the site.

So I think that VSD, before creating each IMG file should check to see if it's overwriting a file. That's what GOOD software does.

The workaround is to have no further user supplied image files called IMG_##. That's not so hard to do.

Anyway, enough ranting. No one wants to hear me complain about this including myself. The time wasted on this is already gone. I am seriously considering jumping ship to Adobe, though.....

Oh, and Eric, in the midst of my ranting (I have fixed the problem and uploaded it and am done with the site for the moment), I neglected to thank you for your time and attention to helping me get this resolved. You certainly helped my thinking, and got me to the right spot to find out exactly what was going on. Thanks for that, and for helping me with my favicon issue!

That's cool mark. The next direction I was going was to ask was that you change the img names to make sure they don't match what VSD is doing. I have had a few users have the same issue with some other apps that generate html pages and their the same name that they used on a VSD page in their site so it gets written over.
As far as WYSIWYG VSD is pretty close. Each browser will render your site a little different. Shoot when was the last time you went to McDonald's and got exactly what's in the picture behind the counter.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

LOL!!! That's a great analogy! :D

My fix ends up being pretty easy. Never again will I use image files with a file name of IMG!

There you go. For SEO use images with your site name in them or important words that describe your site.:)
