Aligning text with objects - Post ID...

I'm using VSD version 7 build 26 on Windows 7 (64). Problem I experience is the same using IE, Chrome, Fire Fox browsers.
When I make a list of names using a text box then try to vertically align these names to objects I find that WYSIWYG doesn't work. I switch back and forth from preview to the edit screen moving the objects up or down till they line up with the text. Refer to http://www.governance.rajsa.asn.au/councillors.html
Once I get it right and upload it, I get complaints that it doesn't line up. I found that varying the zoom on the browser stuffs up this alignment.
Any advice is appreciated.

Hi Tezza,

I tested in all three browsers and all the text looks perfectly aligned even when i zoom + or - 200%.

I have built a lot of websites with VSD and the only browser I have ever had problems with is IE... basically its the worst browser IMO on the market.

I did notice some problems on two of your pages:

The images for the group information are all messed up. Are you using VSD's built in publishing feature or are you uploading manually with FTP?

Hi Steve,
Thanks for your replies. Yes you guessed it. I upload manually using FTP. I guess I uploaded the html file but not the associated 'files' directory. That's why the graphics look messed up. I've fixed this now. I should switch to using the built in FTP feature and save myself this hassle.

I've attached two screen shots from the Chrome browser, one at 110% and the other at 75% zoom. Notice the buttons get progressively out of alignment towards the bottom of the screen on 75%.

Cheers,
Terry

I guess the obvious question is why is your client even concerned what the site looks like when you zoom? Kind of odd to begin with.

However that being said most of my VSD sites look fine when you zoom. When I zoom on your site things look fine. My guess is it has to do with your or his display settings. What resolution and dpi settings are you or your client using?

Tezza, you could avoid the issue altogether by getting rid of all those buttons and just make each name a link.
Put a notice at the top, something like "click on names to view profiles".
If you really want something separate from the names/titles, you could still do a text link (in a different color) by each one:

President - Michael Sachsse JP
Chair - Executive Committee | » view profile

Steve - Monitor resolution I'm using is 1920 x 1200. The client has a membership of 3,000 so goodness knows what they are viewing it on.

Paintbrush - I have toyed around with your idea and it is appealing. I like the button as it stands out but I'm coming round to the notion that it is probably not worth the hassle.

Thanks for your input guys.

Download this file and add the profiles.html and the images folder with it's contents to your site.

Now on your VSD page add this code to a HTML box.
<iframe height="860" style="border:none; background:transparent; width:100%;" src="profiles.html"">

You'll need to make a new profile.jpg has I grabbed one from your site and it has some of the background from the page that VSD puts in there.

Thanks Eric, that's a clever way of approaching the problem.

Your welcome. There's always ways to fix things that don't work in VSD and since VSD is reaching the end of it's life cycle there will probably not be anymore updates to it.
