Selecting this option will place a grid in the edit area.  This grid will allow you to place objects accurately and align them with other objects.  You can move objects with arrow keys.  Another great option for aligning objects can be found in the Right-Click Menu and it is simply called Alignment. This tool will allow you to select multiple items and align them.
