I can't connect.
There are many possible causes for not being able to connect. Here we will go over the most common.
If you are getting a specific error,
check here first.
A good way to determine if the reason you cannot connect is because of Direct
FTP, or your
FTP server, is to try your FTP server and account settings through DOS mode first.
1. Start > Run > Type in CMD > Press ENTER > Type FTP yourhostname.com > Press ENTER.
*If it says "Host not found" or it can't connect, then there is a problem with your hostname. Try contacting your Web hosting provider.
2. Enter your Username > Press ENTER.
3. Enter your Password (Keep in mind it won't appear even though you are typing anything) > Press ENTER.
*If it says "Login incorrect" or it can't connect, then there is a problem with your username/password information. Try contacting your Web hosting provider.
If you are able to successfully connect through DOS mode, try deleting your profile in Direct
FTP and recreating it.
If you are using a Firewall or a PC protection program such as McAfee, Norton or ZoneAlarm, try disabling them, or having them allow Direct
FTP to use port 21.
If you still cannot connect, you can either browse through other
FAQ's for troubleshooting or contact your Web hosting provider.
