Tell a Friend About Our Cool Software
If you need to change the permissions of a file or folder on the server (Also known as CHMOD), you can do this within Direct FTP.
First, click on the File or folder whose attributes you wish to change. Next, click on the Permissions Button
found on the My Site Toolbar. This will bring up an interface where you can graphically change the permissions on the selected file or folder. You will see three options for three different groups of users. The options are Read (meaning the group has permission to read the file), Write (meaning the group can write to the file), and Execute (if the file is an executable, the group can run the file). The three groups are Owner (meaning you), Group (meaning the group of users you belong to), and All Users (meaning everyone else in the world).

You will also notice a Numeric setting at the bottom of this window. This is used to numerically change the permission of the file, and can be useful if you are given instructions to CHMOD a file. For instance, if you are following instructions to install a guestbook on your server, and you are instructed use CHMOD 755 on a certain file, you would enter 755 in the Numeric field on this screen.
