We have found that this usually has to do with the software Firewall that is installed on that computer. (Norton Personal Firewall and ZoneAlarm are examples) This article deals with Norton Personal firewall. Once you have upgraded and installed the new version of Direct FTP you will need to scan your computer for Internet-enabled programs. Norton Internet Security (Norton Personal Firewall) 2002 and 2001

Another option would be to check to make sure you did not fill in the Proxy Server information by mistake. If you have no idea what a Proxy Server is then most likely you don't have one. To check to see if you did fill in the proxy information click on View > Proxy Setup, in Direct FTP. If you have any information filled out in those fields, remove it and click OK. Now restart the program and try connecting.

The final possibility for those of you who have SP2 installed is to make our program an Excepetion to the SP2 firewall. Take a look at the instructions below.
1. From your desktop Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel
2. Locate either the Security Center or Windows Firewall
3. If you found the Security Center, now locate the Windows Firewall
4. Click on the Exceptions tab
5. Click the Add Program button
6. Locate CoffeeCup Direct FTP, highlight it and click OK
7. Click OK in the Firewall window
8. Reboot your computer and connect.
