I can connect to FTP, but can't upload.

There can be several reasons why you can't upload your homepage:

  • Some FTP-servers require that you place the html files and image files in a subfolder on the server. In the letter that you received from your homepage provider it is stated if you should place the files in such a subfolder. If you are uncertain about this then contact your homepage provider and ask. You can also connect to your FTP-server with any FTP client (for instance Direct FTP) and see if your account contains any folders. If it has a "www" folder you should probably place your homepage files in this. This means that you must write "www" in the WWW-folder entry. Other common names for this folder are "public_html", "web", and "httpdocs". Contact your host provider to find out exactly what the name of this folder should be.
  • For some FTP-servers it is necessary to check the passive flag. Open the Internet Connection dialog and click on the Advanced button. This will open a new dialog where you can check this Passive flag. Click on OK and try to upload the homepage again. If that doesn't work then open the dialog again and uncheck the Passive flag.
  • You should have at least 10MB of free space left on the PC.
